Junior Seau's family suing NFL

I know that it is another sport, but there is a reason hockey, and football, are cracking down hard. Which in turn has created a backlash but I doubt that they care. The practice of law is in some ways like a giant poker game where you can manufacture your own aces. If you know you are likely to get sued down the road, you had better start making some aces. This crackdown is obviously one of those, and things that were borderline a few years ago for the past year or so will get you some time off. Then the NHL can point to things that they did to try and lessen the problem. Smart move if there are lawsuits eventually.

Junior Seau's family sues NFL

Junior Seau died at the age of 43 from a self-inflicted gunshot in May.

Updated Jan 23, 2013 3:47 PM ET

The family of Junior Seau has sued the NFL, claiming the former linebacker's suicide was the result of brain disease caused by violent hits he sustained while playing football.

The wrongful death lawsuit, filed Wednesday in California Superior Court in San Diego, blames the NFL for its ''acts or omissions'' that hid the dangers of repetitive blows to the head. It says Seau developed chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) from those hits, and accuses the NFL of deliberately ignoring and concealing evidence of the risks associated with traumatic brain injuries

I feel sorry for the family and friends of Seau but I have a hard time seeing this lawsuit even reaching a jury trial.

If the league concealed research on concussions in the name of their own corporate interest that is somewhere around a billion times more greedy than what Seau's family is doing.

I really don't see them winning this, at all.

Win or lose, Attorneys still get paid. Suing Riddell for negligent design. Pathetic.

How stupid do you have to pretend to be to not know that repeated blows to your head might be dangerous?

I'm sorry, but the fact that they're also suing NFL Films is enough to make me think that the entire case should be summarily thrown out. Clearly just a cash grab at that point.
