It's a tough decision, but Geroy wanted money, and Wally didn't want to give it to him when he likely won't perform up to it. I hate to see Geroy leave, but it seems like we have younger guys that are ready, judging by this move to Buono. I'll trust Buono in this.

I'm going to puke when I see Geroy in Riders green though. Forever a Lion.

Not a bad move. Don't know Harper but the team has done well in past trades and generally makes good use of their draft choices. Moreover, it seemed increasingly clear that Simon has repeated injuries and there has to be some doubt about his ability to make it thru a season without more hamstring problems.

Besides that the Lions have a core of receivers ready to step in and play at more cap friendly rates. They have Taylor, Moore, Gore, Iannuzzi, Foster, E. Jackson and players like Gooding on the practice roster. (btw Johnson is apparently gone unless someone has different info here) Also the scouting staff always seems to bring in new receivers every year. Moreover, the money gained by trading Simon could provide the cap space to make another trade within the League.

I would also say that it was becoming clear that Simon was increasing not a deep threat. Other teams such as Calgary schemed their defense to take advantage of that.

Yes it is sad to lose Simon after all he has done for the team and the fan base. But strictly in terms of football move, the trade seems very defensible.

Amen. It's a sad day today but what makes it even harder is the fact we traded him to the green idiots. I am not ready to acknowledge the football benefits just yet. It stings. The guy has been the face of the Lions for a long time. Can't imagine him somewhere else. Definitely 4ever a Leo!

Geroy Simon on 1040 right now. Says his spot on the depth chart and difference in philosophy were the main factors. In turn, money wasn't competitive enough for what management was proposing. Goes on to say that the decision between him and Wally was mutual and no hard feelings. Plans to stay living in BC during the off-season and will remain involved in the community as much as possible.

No, you are just another realistic member of the silent majority. Simon will be missed, he did a fantastic job mentoring the young receiving corps, I hope he has success in Regina.

Was heart-breaking... not because I hate the Raiders or the Seahawks (I'm indifferent to both) but because it just sucks to lose the face of your franchise to another team.

It's gonna suck to see Simon in a Riders jersey.
I hated it when we traded Claremont... this is much worse from a fan perspectinve. And it's not even like his skills were diminishing that much, either. Bleh.

Ugh. Don't remind me.

Business is business, and it's all too common today to see the above (and Montana in that ugly Chiefs Uni), and that's why it would have meant all the more to see Geroy retire a Lion.

At least in Montana's case, you can only have one starting QB, and that was Young. And Rice signed to retire as a Niner, albeit ceremonially.

And none of these guys were traded; they signed as FAs. Makes a difference when you don't live up to the contract you and your franchise player signed and shook hands on.

The end of an era. Going to miss Geroy. And the 1040 playing this song this morning was ever-so appropriate.

Right call I think. He's over the hill and our young receiving core gets a chance. Leo's were solid with Geroy and Bruce out with injuries. I think we see Moore really emerge.

Apparently draft choice is conditional on Reilly signing with the Eskimos.

Getting something whereas it looked like Reilly would gone for nothing

Sounds like it ends up being a second rounder in 2014 and a switch of second rounders this year for reilly

Shawn Gore re-signs with the Lions. At least there's some good news.

Beats losing Reilly for nothing as a free agent, which is what would've happened next.

Yeah, true that. Good return, and very nice to see Gore sign.

He's going to be a stud in the CFL.

Solomon Elimimian re-signs: https://twitter.com/News1130Sports/s...82501895610369

And now we can build a 3-4 with him and Bighill inside right from the start of camp. Going to be a fun D to watch again this year.

That surprises me quite a bit. I thought there was no way he'd be back here.

Buono gave him a triple raise.

I approve of Soloman Elimimian coming back!...although surprised as well since just a couple hrs ago, Farhan made it seem like he wouldn't come back to the Lions and he was pursuing other options within the CFL...either way...This Chris is happy

Awesome!
I don't like losing premium assets in any sport, so it's nice to lock him up, even if one of them ends up moving, at least we'll probably get something back for him.

Great job Coach B!

When I heard Elimimian was not going to re-sign with BC I thought for sure he'd end up in Hamilton just given how inept that defence was.

Banks and Paris Jackson were re-signed as well.

Who do you put at Nose Tackle in a 3-4? I'm leaning towards Taylor. Will be interesting to see what they do with Mitchell and Westerman in that type of formation.

I hope that, with so many of our core Defensive players returning, we have a really strong start to the season.

Also, what's the story with Ottawa returning? Can anyone help me with how the draft for Ottawa works? How many players can they take from each team? How many can the Lions protect?
