The Bodrov selection is a little confusing, but I can sort of see where the Flyers were coming from. Popov has a small chance of becoming really good, he probably wont, but the chance is still there - good pick.

Why was he picked so late if he was ranked so high? Also, does anyone know is Matsumomto is japanese or if not, what his heritage is? If he is of asian descent, is this the first player of asian descent ever drafted by the flyers?

I'm not sure about the draft but Richard Park was a Flyer for a bit; he was born in South Korea.

Considering Clarkie's goof yesterday with the first round pick, imagine if he had a chance to mess up Fukufuji (Kings).

No. The Flyers drafted Steve Tsujiura in the 10th round of the 1981 draft. He played several seasons in the minor league system with Maine, but never played with the big club. Later, he played in Switzerland, the JIHL in Japan and for the Japanese Olympic team at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano. He's also been an NHL assistant coach (Los Angeles, Columbus) and AHL assistant coach (Portland).

Yes, Matsumoto is of Japanese descent.

Yes, but he was rated by Central Scouting as the third highest butt nugget in this draft. As an organization that is lacking butt nugget depth, I think we should've taken White. I mean, Rathje and Hatcher aren't going to play forever.

White is a center, not a defenseman

Someone compared him to Hemsky. I'll take that, although Hemsky has a bigger frame. Now if Nodl can be another Vanek....Hell, Nodl is already Austrian and going to college in Minnesota (SCSU). There's half the battle.

That's a pretty tough division. I hope Noodle doesn't get too down on himself during his freshman year.
