It's not 4 games. We played like this for large stretches last year and pretty much the entire playoffs.

Blow it up. They clearly cannot win the Cup with this core.
Kings aren't that good. Yep, I sad it. They got hot at the right time last year. Are they better than they have been playing, yes. But not a dominant team IMHO.

EDIT: Thought this was in the main board, I come in peace!
I'm starting to worry this isn't true. The value that Dubi, Artie, Prust, and Fedotenko brought to the team was pretty massive. They were our main forecheckers, our main penalty killers (along with Cally)...losing all of that is tough. And they would help keep the team steady, with the inconsistency of the young guys like Stepan and Hagelin.

this is the on ice product of having no camp and no pre season. Sure some teams have had good starts. many are not and we're one of them.

They played a tough, big, Bruins team last night and won, so i'm not that surprised they didn't have much in the tank for tonight's game

But... hungry or not, we should have beaten a far inferior opponent.
The uninspired play of most of this game would have easily been forgotten had they cashed in on the powerplay.

It can't be overstated enough! The inability of this coaching staff to construct a functioning powerplay will be their demise.

Better than Stepan, who's a waste.

Except it is 4 games, because if we won these games you'd be crowning us SC champions already.

I was here acknowledging our struggles late last season, but "large stretches" is hyperbole.

That's the case for everybody. There is no excuse for the lack of effort we've seen. They decided to show up last game and got a win against a Bruins team that's way better than the injury/suspension riddled Flyers. The team doesn't give a ****. Torts lost the team.

Other than this one game.. Nash has been our best forward so far, so I have no idea what game you're watching. The line "as ineffectively as he has" makes me want to puke. He wasn't GREAT tonight, but what about the other three games so far? He was our best forward in game one and two and set up Gabby's first goal in game three. I'd hardly say he's been "ineffective".

ALSO, to those blaming Torts for our woeful PP... get your head checked, cuz it aint the case. You can see that the set plays are there and every player knows what he's "supposed" to do, but beyond that, it's ALL ON THE PLAYERS. Running a successful power-play is almost 100% on the players and how creative they can be with the puck. Like Ron D. said int he Post-Game, at some point you have to forget about set plays and just take the shot or do something different with the puck. We have some great offensive players out there who can shoot/pass the puck, but right now they're just not clicking. I would like to see Stralman out on the PP on the left point so he can utilize his one-timer. Having Richards on the right point is something that I'm beginning to question as he seems to flub one-timers more often than not.

Anyway, it's obvious there's not gonna be rational discussion until we go on a winning streak.

Part of the trade for Nash was a secret agreement that the Rangers have to tank this season to give Columbus the 1st and 2nd overall.

We'll get the cup next year.

And they were a #1 seed that got 6 games deep into the ECF, so clearly something about it must work.

Just doesn't feel like 4 games. Feels like the same team that can't score on the powerplay, can't win faceoffs, can't generate zone time, and doesn't live up to expectations that I've been watching since 2005.

Sure it's an improvement on the '98-'04 gong show, but I have to wonder when it's not gonna be the same thing. It's not 4 games. It's not even one season. It's years of the same problems.

That was my bad. I was typing a little fast and still a little heated.

I didn't crawl out from a bridge though, it was a burning bus. Specifically the bus that had all the hard work and effort that was supposed to be delivered to this team before the season started.

And I bet you weren't saying that when we were world beaters at times last season.

It's a ****** 4 game stretch...but in the grand scheme of things it's 1-3. Teams will do that.

...Though I do agree about the PP. Should've signed Jagr just so I would THINK we could score on it.

Well, if a team with Kopitar, Doughty, Richards, Carter, Quick, Brown, Martinez, etc, who steamrolled their way to a Cup, aren't all that good, I quit on hockey. Clearly I'm never going to see a good team.

Over the last two games I'm not that upset. The Flyers were in that must win position, at home and the Rangers played a difficult game the day just before. They hanged in there, once the power play gets from horrible to normal, we will be fine. This month was always going to be difficult.

You keep bringing up last year as if was so much different. At it's core, last year it was still the same ****: awful powerplay, no creativity, bad on faceoffs, all the same problems.

But we made it work last year. Because of Lundqvist, because McDonagh and Girardi played out their skulls, because we have alot of heart, because we got some clutch goals and found a way to win a ton of close games, we made it work.

That was amazing. I'll always love last year's team. But this year I wanted to change those same old problems rather than try to work through them again. I know it's only 4 games, but so far, same problems.

Can we improve and work through them again this year? Wouldn't be surprised. But I'd so much rather get rid of them.

but you can't overlook the fact of the long layoff, no camp, no preseason having an effect on their game right now. We're integrating new players and we're counting on some younger players to step up.

every team is on level ground but that doesn't mean that the above should be overlooked as not being a factor in this team's lack of cohesion right now

It's 4 games in and let's face it, the team has been inconsistent from the goaltending out. I think the "hard" training camp that Torts has the Rangers go through, gives them an advantage during the season, as they're less tired/fresher than their opposition later in games and throughout the season. We don't have that advantage this year, and it really shows. The team looks tired, not crisp and doubt has crept in the team.
Torts has a lot to work on, and so does Sather, because unless things change drastically, he'll need to get more experienced, cheap role players for the 3-4 lines, who can contribute a little offensively. Easier said than done.
Finally, get DZ on the PP at all times, especially on 5 on 3's! The 5 forwards experiment is not working.

Until the last minute, we were doing quite fine in the faceoffs today, while facing Giroux.

Obviously, the Rangers played a bad game. They've played badly in 3 of 4 games this season. It sucks, and while I'm not happy with it, I'm not ready to declare this a bad team 4 games into the season. Granted, it's a 48 game season, but 4 games is still VERY early. Anyone remember the Wild starting out 20-7-1 and not making the playoffs? One hot streak, and this will be forgotten.

That said, for that hot streak to happen, there's still a lot of work that needs to be done. I think they've made a couple of improvements over the past two games. Defense looks better, and Lundqvist just played a fantasic game. Offense looked good against the Bruins, but tonight, it was pretty bad. Nash-Richards-Gaborik was invisible and broken up by the end of the night. Gaborik was actually one of the only players that was decent tonight aside from Lundqvist, but Nash and Richards weren't noticeable. I think the Flyers actually played a very good defensive game, but Nash and Richards have to be better.

All in all, the team looks to be improving in a couple areas...but they still need to improve in a LOT more of their game before they're winning games like they should be.

I think Bryz needs credit. If he doesn't get the glove on Nash's shot on that 5 on 3, in a play that looked similar to Pyatt's goal, the board is singing a much different tune.

Agreed. He played a solid game, made the saves when he needed too. Unfortunately for us, he didn't have to make a lot of them.

Yeah, I imagine it is a factor. I just need to say it to other people besides my dad and brother. The main issue I have with them is that they look like they have no legs. They dont skate to any pucks. I guess its a mix of no camp and all that stuff, but I cant help fear that they just dont care anymore. That they got lucky last year and they are actually kinda lazy.

Also, maybe I'm a little more on edge because its a short season and like someone said on a previous page last year, when they were losing in the early parts of the year, they still looked good. They didnt fumble all the passes, they skate hard every second of every shift and they were very good on defense, both in their own end and the neutral zone.

Hopefully it will come with some more time.
