Break Up 82-63-21

Time for Lindy to realize when a change is needed. The trio was magic at the end of last season. It ain't clickin' now.

Vanek-Hodgson-Pominville
Foligno-Grigorenko-Stafford
Gerbe-Ennis-Ott
Whatever

I know it's only been three games, so I'm not signaling the firing squad. But one line can't carry the team.

Gerbe-Ennis-Ott?

Really?

And what do you think that line would accomplish?

Puck possession. And Ott is better at creating space than Foligno.

Why don't they just put Ennis on Gerbe's shoulders, play them with Scott and have the Twin Towers line

why don't people actually post their line combos? because f-e-s won't be a line all season....

I would really like to see Foligno-Grigs-Stafford but Lindy will never let it happen

Even Lindy isn't that fickle with his lines.

Well, it's difficult when your first line is set in stone and the rest of your team is wishy-washy.

Interesting idea.

I was thinking Ennis/Grigs/Stafford to keep the speed on that line. Neither Foligno nor Grigs are fleet of foot.

Ennis Grigs Stafford makes the most sense to me. You can do Foligno Ott Gerbe as the third line, which could be a pretty awesome energy line.

I think Ott has earned a shot on the second line, and Foligno has earned a spot in the press box. Bring Ellis back to show the rest of the poor schleps what hard work is.

I thought the idea was to not have Ott centering a line. But Foligno-Ott-Gerbe sounds pretty intriguing.

I don't see them moving Ennis from center, not after 3 games.

I like the idea of Ennis-Grigorenko-Stafford as well, I just don't see that happening.

I find it funny how people get mad at Lindy for breaking a line up when they go a game or two without being effective, and then also get mad at him for not breaking up lines that have shown chemistry when they do the exact same thing.
Dude just can't win (literally?).

Anyway. I think Ott has earned a chance in the top 6. Foligno hasn't played like he belongs there, so I'd flip the two. Grigs and Foligno looked pretty good in the couple shifts they had together tonight. Might be nothing, but maybe there's some chemistry there.

no he can't. he's a coach. there are times where he juggles players too much, and other times where he beats a dead horse with the same combo of players. his job is to find the best chemistry. you do whatever you need to do. if i recall, vanek-roy-afinogenov was our most productive lines back a few years ago. when they stopped clicking, i remember pulling my hair out. but everything good comes to an end. in this situation, i think changes are needed.

Ott-Ennis-Stafford
Foligno-Grigorenko-Gerbe

It doesn't really change the dynamic of the line, but maybe it just serves as a wake up call. It might not be enough of a change to make things work.

I only hope Ruff doesn't break up VHP in an attempt to get the other lines going (i.e. putting Vanek and Pommer on two different lines to get 2 lines that are productive).

You don't break up Ennis and Stafford for any reason.

If you break up that line it's to replace Grigs with Foligno or nothing at all... move Hecht to 3C.

"Foligno - Grigorenko - Stafford" had a shift together in the third that was over a minute long. I liked it (not the duration, but the pace/play). That's a big ****in' line with a ******** of talent.

Dramatic, and very "un-Lindy" as we well know.

also be patient for cripes sake, keep in mind that teams had a week long training camp and no pre-season games. Chemistry doesn't overtake players just being a little rusty.

I don't see the sense in breaking apart 2 players with real chemistry after 3 games. It's something that bored hockey fans clamor for.

Do you remember how useless Drew Stafford is without Tyler Ennis?

If anything, just flip Ott and Foligno

I don't think the line should be broken up, but I wouldn't be mad if they tried Grigorenko there in place of Ennis for one or both of his last two games. I agree with you - it's really ****ing early, there was a big layoff for a lot of these guys (and a layoff from playing alongside each other), and they're all pretty rusty except for Vanek and Miller so far.

As an aside, Stafford has outplayed Ennis by far in the three games in my mind, but that's really not relevant.

The entire line clicked last year, not just Ennis/Stafford. Foligno arguably kickstarted that line, and certainly made it drive in terms of physicality and the creation of space for Ennis.

Lastly, and most importantly, we know Ruff. We know he won't hesitate to make a switch in combos or lines or pairings at any point, really.

I'd give F-E-S at least another shot.

They showed some flashes the first 2 games. They probably might just need 1 goal to breakout.

That said, My favourite line combos would be:

Vanek-Hodgson-Pominvill
Leino/Hecht (until Leino comes back) - Ennis - Ott
Foligno - Grigs - Stafford
Gerbe - Hecht/Ellis - Kaleta
