Yak's celebration is okay by me because he knows the Oilers got ****ed.

NHL owes us an answer. Tomorrow. From Bettman/Daly. Not from a ref, from the head honchos.

As much as I get nervous now when Whitney gets the puck (though he had strong moments tonight), anyone else not being impressed with N Schultz?

Yeah - why is Horcoff still on the #1PP? I think he's been playing fine as a 3C, but I don't understand what he brings to the table on the PP. Nuge, Gagner, and even Smyth win as many faceoffs as him, so it's not that. And if not faceoffs, what's the benefit of having him there instead of Yakupov, Gagner, Hemsky, whomever...

You can see the Kings players cheating away from him and cutting off lanes, cause really - would you be worried with thecaptainshawnhorcoff there? You see the kids don't even look at him as an option either.

Exactly. We roll over and die in the Sharks game and lose 7-1 and then come out flat tonight, get behind, and get shutout 2 or 3 nothing with an empty netter in a snoozefest.

If we can close the chapter on that book i'll be very happy

Totally down after that loss, but good game Oiler fans, your better players made the plays while LA's didn't except Quicker, but good game to you guys.

The only nitpick I have coming away from this game is... could that be a taste of things to come as far as reffing is concerned? Pundits have been mentioning stuff about the owners saying they wanted the game called tighter, more to the letter of the law for more penalties. Is this the future of the NHL? PP after PP?

Quite frankly, I would rather watch 4 minutes of 5v5, than 2 minutes of a PP and then 2 minutes of a PK. 5on5 and the ebb and flow of it are what make hockey great. More scoring isn't better if it all comes on the power play.

This messing around with the rules and the reffing has to stop. If the explosive growth of the NHL the past 5 years hasn't taught these guys to back off, they're complete morons.

Horcoff was Krugers 2nd best option on the dot tonight (Belanger was a beast).
I wouldn't fault him for playing the odds in an effort to secure puck possession.

Lots of emotions running through me right now after that win, but some quick notes:

1) Ladies and Gentleman, that's how you play systems hockey. Defensive zone awareness, proper positional play, and no gaffes in coverage like which repeatedly happened against SJ

2) When's the last time you remember us able to actually tie the game with the goalie pulled? And then go on to win the game? That's a feature of the "competitive" Oiler teams that played from 1997 leading up to the Hemsky/Stefan goal in early 2007. After that I honestly can't remember another goal with the goalie pulled that eventually ended in an Oilers win

3) We need to re-arrange our top-6. That top-line just isn't working for us.

Horcoff was pretty solid on the power play last year. He had a pretty rough night tonight though.

TSN could make a top 10 with just highlights from this game.

Yaks celebration was absolutely perfect, but some asshat in the league will take exception and try to take his head off in a later game. Everyone else can suck it.

Sutter stormed into the refs' room after the game according to Tencer...

Apparently he also may be fined after his postgame scrum...

It was the same in 96 during the first crackdown, and then 2005/06 when there was a huge spike in powerplays. The players need to adjust, and it'll take a couple of months, especially given no training camps.

Moving towards tighter reffing and actually calling the rulebook is a good thing.

Did I hear this right? Tencer saying that Sutter ran after the refs after the game to complain and is probably going to get fined? I'm not sure I heard it right, can anyone confirm?

EDIT: Thanks, Nuny.

The NHL Twitter feed tried to provide an answer by linking to the rule online or something. They're defending the call.

Yeah, maybe stormed in to give them a hug. They did their best to give L.A. the game at the end.

He had 13 PPP last season playing with Hall Nuge and Ebs. That was not pretty solid imo. He needs to be replaced by Harski on the 1st unit.

Great ending to an unbelievably weird game!

I just absolutely love Yakupov. Probably my favorite player on the team along with Hall. His unbridled enthusiasm is just so infectious. The celebration was amazing. What hand eye coordination to bat home the 1-1 goal.

Saw some great chemistry between #64, #83 and #89 tonight. Both Hemmer and Gagner set him up with great opportunities at least a couple times each. Kid could have easily had 3 or 4.

Great determination and resilience by the team. This is a game where they would have folded over the past couple seasons. Great to see Sammy (another whipping boy) get the OT GWG.
