When Penner is a very valuable player when on his game and motivated. Not sure why he can't get that together in LA, but he is certainly a good player when used properly. I wouldn`t mind him back in Edmonton, but I don`t know what I`d be prepared to offer, ha ha.
I don't want this to be a "pancakes" spam type of thread, but I want to know:
After Penner's healthy scratch tonight, is there any teams out there that would trade for him? What would you trade for him? UFA at the end of the year, big body
11 pts in 20 playoff games last year
2 cup wins
Has scored 30, 20+ a few times
Only had 17 points last year
Doesn't always use his size effectively
His trade value is even lower now because he is a free agent. Kings could accept a 5th round pick or something perhaps another teams struggling unrestricted free agent. The problem I have with Penner is his current salary but I wouldnt mind him on my team at all. SOmetimes a change of scenery is the best thing for a player
I think Penner will only bring 4th rd pick at best or swamping another teams struggling player with potential. I was really hoping he'd be playing the way he did in the playoffs but he's never looked worse!
Penner has decent value, he's shown that he actually might bethe player he showed glimpses of with the Ducks, before the Edmonton QO fiasco. At the very least, he has that higher gear when the games matter most.
However, looking at the LA Kings' salary structure, they have 12 players signed next year with $54M allocated to those 12 players. Yikes!! Penner doesn't offer the Kings any salary cap salvation, so most likely they'll want the option of trying to re-sign him at a discount. If they could get him at $2.5M, that would be a big help to their salary structure/depth.
I think Lombardi might just hold onto him and risk losing him for nothing if he decides to go for the money somewhere else.
