michael sgarbossa

Came out of nowhere with the wolves a couple years ago and now hes lighting it up in the AHL. Is he the real deal? Also do you think the Sharks regret trading him?

Love this kid. Stupid trade for the Sharks in hindsight. But it's also not like they spent a draft pick on him so it's not as big a hit.

He has been really good in the AHL, he started off slow but he has been hot lately. He is good defensively, a good playmaker and he is a smart player.

There is a good chance he will be a top 6 player in the future but I can't guarantee that.

It's like a switch went off when he got to Sudbury, unreal production since.

And I hate that trade for the Sharks, big McGinn fan myself. Just don't get it.

they regret a few things about trading him, my friend is higher on him than i am, but when i watched lake erie come to toronto he was the best forward prospect for lake erie. in our opinion he is the real deal.

Trade looks really bad now that Winnik didn't resign. Sgarbossa is an excellent prospect, will be a great player for Colorado.

Didn't the Avs get McGinn in the same trade? If so great job by Sherman.

The only thing that matters is production post-draft, no matter if he was a high or low selection. From everything I've read about Sgarbossa (even when he was San Jose's property), Colorado has a real gem.

Thankfully he's received an upgrade on his right side. If he can produce about a point per game with a dud on the right side, just imagine what he'll be able to do with having two wingers with speed and scoring ability.

4 Points in his last 2 games, honestly at this point what is his max potential?

I have no idea, and admitedly havent watched him alot(Outside of the occasional game and highlights in the AHL) but looking at his stats, he tore up the OHL last year, and now he's playing at a PPG pace in the AHL in his first year, while other big name prospects like Schwartz, Zibanejad, and Etem are struggling too an extent.

Does Sgarbossa have Top line potential? Could he be a 70-80 point guy at the NHL?

Kid is still playing great and might even be an AHL All-Star!

Caught him in Sudbury a few times. He took over that team. His point totals were fantastic, even more impressive is that the support around him was subpar

I am intrigued by the fact that he was undrafted in his draft year. He had a pretty good 16-year-old season and was a PPG player in Barrie until he was traded to Saginaw. What happened in Saginaw? It seems that Sgarbossa has succeeded everywhere he has been except Saginaw. Had he not been traded there, would he have been drafted and thus had more hype than he has now?

Saginaw was a complete toss up for ice time when he was there. Quite a few really strong junior players on those squads. Vincent Trocheck (FLA 3rd '11), Ivan Telgin (ATL 4th, '10), Jordan Skellet as an overage player, Josh Shalla (NSH 4th, '11), Jordan Szwarz (PHX 4th, '09), and a few other guys who have played minor pro hockey. Sgarbossa played more an energy line role with those clubs. It wasn't until he was traded to Sudbury the year after his draft year, that he really exploded onto the scene offensively as his role increased and his confidence did as well. By then, San Jose had already signed him. I can't stress enough how rare it is for a draft eligible camp invite to get a contract at 18, but that's how impressed the Sharks were with his complete game.

I said it right after his breakout in Sudbury, had he been able to go back into the draft he would have had a Tanner Pearson like rise in his stock, potentially into the early to mid 2nd round. Quite a number of teams are kicking themselves for not seeing what was right in front of them in 2010.

Looked great in his first game today. Much more poised than I would have thought for his first game. Still can't believe SJ traded him for Winnik and Galiardi. Absolute steal.

Displayed his quick hands a few times, made some nice passes, and really showed his hockey sense in the game.

Really surprised of his defensive game. Well positioned and made smart quick plays in his end. Really erased my any doubts I had about his future as a top sixer. Really looking forward to his development.
