Nödl

Andreas Nödl will play for St. Cloud State University next season, where he'll be coached by Bob Motzko, who was Thomas Vanek's former coach at Sioux Falls and the University of Minnesota.

He also apparently has a similar skill set to Vanek.

I notice he won the fastest skating contest at the USHL skills competition. He, Ratchuk and Giroux all have some wheels. Looks like Clarke is trying to solve the problem of team speed through the draft.

yea and that is a welcome change. shows that clarke realizes that changes that are necessary for the club. should be a good offseason. it would be great to start by getting rid of hatcher but i think youd have to dump him with a player to make the deal worth it. id say him and handzus to edm for a pick and a shot in the dark prospect. then edm can have more freedom on what they get for pronger.

You got a good one in Nödl. I have seen him play as a 16 year old in austria in a league of men and he dominated at times. IMO he is a different player than Vanek. Skates more, skates smother and quicker. Both have a good shot but Nödl does not have that scary one-on-one ability Vanek has. Nödl works harder though.

While I don't want to stray off topic, I just thought I'd point out that there's no way Edmonton would take someone as slow as Hatcher. That team is all about skating.

How do we say Nodl? It's been a while since we've had a draft pick where there isn't enough vowels in his name.

I think it's Nuu-dle ... or Noodle?

2 Austrians drafted in this years draft (Nödl and Grabner) and I think both of them will be great NHL players soon, like Vanek. This will be good for Austrian hockey.

Wow, will they actually put the umlaut on his uniform (assuming he plays pro at some level)?

Ugh, it's hard to describe how to pronounce an umlauted vowel. The umlauted vowel is formed at the front of the mouth. Form a very small "o" with the mouth and try to say "oh" without moving the lips.

At least, that is what I remember from German 1 way back in 8th grade. Some German/Austrian on here will probably slam my poor explanation.

Yeah, that's a close pronunciation. That "o" and "u" umlaut sound category is close to where the "r" is pronounced. It's a weird sound in English because we don't really have the umlaut vowel sound.

The closest I can explain it is by saying "Nerd-el" but without ACTUALLY making the r sound. It's not a natural American English sound, but it's easy to repeat when you hear it.

Well, however you pronounce his last name, if he is developed properly, then we've got a gamer on our hands. I really like what I've read about him and if he's allowed to display his offensive creativity on this team, he's well worth the pick.

On a side note, does anyone know if Hitch was at the draft as well this weekend and has anyone heard any comments from Hitch with regards to the players we drafted?
