Was at tonight's game and wow... all I could say. Worst officiating I have ever seen but probably the best game I have been to since Stefan missed the empty net or even Omark's debut.

Fistric played a great game. For the love of god, please dont put Potter back in the line up to replace him. Fistric is exactly what this team needs.

Smyth was pretty great on the PK tonight but yeah... the days of depending on him to score you a goal are long gone.

Even though it's high because of PP time and overtime, that's not a good thing. Too many games, too close together. Don't gas them.

I noticed that as well. He broke up a potential 2 on 1 as well.

I think he needs to be pushed down to the 4th line, with mainly special teams duties at this point. He might find his game once the rust wears off, but for the time being I'd go with...

Hartikainen-Horcoff-Paajarvi
Smyth-Belanger-Petrell

RNH quietly had a fantastic night offensively (despite just one assist) and defensively. He generated the most chances on the team 5 on 5 and on the powerplay.

I was going to say it was one of the worst officiated games in Oiler history but the ref also gave LA a ton of penalties. In that sense they evened it out as he was consistent (bad).

Great character win for the Oil which will hopefully propel them to further heights.

It was the worst officiated game period.

You can't pick and choose what to call. So many trips and interference calls that were made during key moments.

Or that terrible cross checking flop....

Or how about calling for a face off violation which never gets called right before the Oil get a 5 on 3.

L.A was taking stupid penalties like too many men. The refs had to call that or else it would for sure seem biased.

Hollywood has to be in the playoffs, apparently always at the expense of Edmonton.

I would argue that it was still biased in LA's favor. The instigating penalty could be argued either way based on Nolan dropping the gloves first, but the "with visor" addition was unnecessary. Brown and Kopitar both had very obvious dives in the game, and i saw multiple occurrences of smothering the puck after that initial call.

I was re-watching the last couple minutes and I realized, that was a huge shot block by Hall on Richards, thats game over if he doesnt block that, never really saw that the first time around but WOW

Yak's gaining confidence! On a few occasions, he gathered speed, carried the puck up, and didn't worry too much about passing it needlessly. He's starting to look comfortable playing his game.

If you call the instigator on Smid, you have to call the double minor. The ref can't give him the instigator without adding on the "instigating with a visor" penalty, it's either instigating or it isn't. I didn't think it was.

Jeff Petry-had a solid defensive game on the PK, did it all defensively. Solid game.
Taylor Hall-Took shots, blocked some pucks. Didn't execute on the PP but good game
Ladislav Smid-played well but the penalties hurt the team, even though Brown faked one. Meh game.
Ryan Whitney-can't make a good decision and is having trouble skating. Bad game.
Shawn Horcoff-defensive, and that's all we asked of him today. Good game.
Jordan Eberle-couldn't execute but was there offensively. Good game.
Nick Schultz-he was the reason we were scored on, so got to give him a meh game.
Justin Schultz-offensively did a lot, PP quarterback had a solid game.
Eric Belanger-faceoff winner had hard defensive assignments. Good game.
Lennart Petrell-had a good time on the PK. Good game.
Devan Dubnyk-made tons of key saves, our top penalty killer. Stellar game.
Mark Fistric-had some defensive issues but putting Nolan on his ass=good game
Teemu Hartikainen-hardly played. Good game I guess
Nail Yakupov-defensive issues but who cares, game hero, stellar game
Ales Hemsky-too long with the puck on the PP. OK game
Sam Gagner-had a great all-around game. Other game hero, stellar game
Magnus Paajarvi-fast but was weakest part of PK, meh game
RNH-was finding guys again with his passes and had a solid game at both sides
Ryan Smyth-offensively gross but key on the PK and in the defensive zone, good game

Someone needs to create a GIF of Yakupov sliding with various landmarks passing behind him. Eg. Statue of Liberty, the pyramids, Eiffel Tower etc.

Beauty of a hit , Would love to see him do a few of these against Calgary. Wouldn't mind seeing him deck Brown next time we play the Kings too.

Not fast enough IMO. There should be Yakupov knocking out tumbleweed Kesler, Phaneuf falling on his ass as Yak slides by, lightSabres and rolling heads, etc.
I am disappoint TBH...

But honestly, I gotta insist on giving credit to the spotlight dudes, coz that's what makes it epic. We'll sadly really need overzealous celebrations this season, just so we forget that our goal song is ****ing Pitbull... Ugh.

I love this team so much right now. Just wait until we play a bad team, it is going to get messy. Really excited for the first blowout of the year.

I was thinking.. Gagner is looking pretty damn good this year and the top line is leaving me wanting more. Maybe we could move Ganger between Hall and Eberle and give RNH to Hemsky and Yakupov.

Yup, both teams were taking turns getting screwed....pretty sure the refs got together and decided to play "good cop, bad cop".

The only positive thing i can take out of that double screw job was that it was on national TV so hopefully the NHL is embarassed enough to actually take their head out of the sand and fire these 2 a$$clowns. Somebody neeeds to be held accountable for that s*** show, if players and coaches have to be held accountable for bad games, so should the refs (and the league itself, its not exactly the "we're sorry fans" kind of apology i was expecting when the lockout ended). They have too much power and not nearly enough accountability if you ask me.

Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do.

My few thoughts:

Considering we played Vancouver, San Jose & Los Angeles in our first three games, I'd say a 2-1 start is quite good. I won't even comment on the officiating.

Yakupov is gaining more confidence each game and is playing well. Doesn't seem to be to big of a liability defensively either which is great.

Petry is a rock on D.

Dubnyk got lucky with posts tonight, I still have very little confidence in him.

Pajaarvi has done a great job of using his speed on the fore check.

Whitney is playing horrible. He's barely a third pairing guy at this point.
