So Rick is HEALTHY! Awesome. I wish I could get an alert when he will start a game. I am really interested to see him perform! I guess he will play some games before retiring in 2022?

Anyone have any idea when Rick might get the nod?

I'm guessing the earliest we are gonna see Rickey is Friday against Boston.

Thank you for the replys.

Tremendous news! I will book a Dipietro watch for the weekend - thats for sure! I expect nothing but brilliance from him now with the reputation hes got. (1st pick and all)

Ricky really needs support now, dont you think? I hope all Isles fan will get behind him when he plays!!!?

Gotta ride your number 1 against the SC contender in BOS. Isles should roll Nabby vs TOR, then BOS. Let DP play against WPG giving Nabby rest from Sat to Tues. After that, he shouldn't play until CAR in mid-Feb.

I think we roll DP against leafs and Nabby at bruins and jets.....WE have to go 3-2 this trip. I doubt we beat the bruins and pens but I think we should beat leafs jets and devils

That's why we should play Nabby against the Leafs and Dipietro against the Bruins(hope for the small chance he gets some hometown magic). Nothing would be worse then going to Toronto and having Dipietro lose us the game by allowing a couple bad goals then going to Boston and having Nabby play the game of his life and losing something like 2-1

Rick will almost definitely play on Thursday against the Leafs

No way Capuano has the attitude "well we are probably going to lose against the Bruins anyway, might as well put in DiPietro"

Ricky will play Thursday. They're just waiting to get on the road to play him.

I like this idea. Hopefully the coaching staff is thinking along these lines.

I know Ricky D is a buy out option but will they pull the trigger? I think they have to pay him 2/3rds of his contract. That's probably about 25 Million. I know it's expected but unless they cahange their MO they are always looking to get to the cap floor. His salary helps them do that even though it's weight around the teams neck. Will Wang bite the bullet?

I just really really... reallllllyyyy don't understand this.

Not saying you're gonna be one the guys booing him (although it certainly sounds like it) but I don't get why we'd boo anyone on the Islanders who isn't a slacker. Rick hasn't done anything to warrant boos. Is he injury prone? Obviously. A complete disappointment? Nothing but. Deserves boo? No shot. Whether you agreed with his style of play back when he was healthy or not, he always gave it his all. Can anyone actually imagine how tough it must be for someone to legit rehab as much as he has to try and come back, only to keep failing?

I know a lot of us don't have the fortune of being millionaires like him, and I'm not saying we should shed tears for him, but it's gotta be pretty tough to go from a once super talented #1 overall pick who was on his way to being one of the better goalies in the league to someone who can't step on the ice without being injured and destroyed by his own fan base. Because it's Rick DiPietro that's holding this franchise back. Please.

That being said, I expect to see him start tonight, and hopefully he'll be solid enough that we can get a win against a real good Boston team.

Yes I believe he gets the start tonight. Hopefully he will play with some pride considering he grew up a 20 min. T ride from down town Boston.

Ugh. This is why it hurts to have DP on the roster. Nabby didn't play great last night, but he saw a lot of shots and he needs to stay fresh. At the same time, everyone knows that Boston's size is going to have us pinned in deep for large portions of this game. Starting DP sends the message that it's going to be a long night. At least with a kid like Poulin there's a shot he can recover after a first save, while DP is still wincing on the ground (poor guy, no malice intended, but it's the truth).

It's going to be a long night.

Cheers,

Dan-o

My feeling of this game tonight with DP is that of a mexican beheading video. Its 100% morbid curiosity, even though I know it wont end well, and will likely leave me very depressed, I will watch anyway.

I don't see it happening. Putting DP in net against the Bruins, in my opinion, is basically us waving the white flag. But hey, if the Islanders win with a motivated Rick in net tonight then the Stanley Cup is ours for the taking.
