French-language newspaper La Presse in Montreal had some quotes from Quebec Remparts coach Patrick Roy yesterday concerning Mikhail Grigorenko, who has three games remaining with the Sabres before Darcy Regier and his crew have to make a decision on keeping him or sending him back to the QMJHL:

"I begin to think that there is a strong possibility that Mikhail does not return with us. Yesterday (Monday), he played 13 minutes in his second game in two nights. He is doing well with the Sabres. And he behaves well defensively. I begin to think that the team I have right now, and that will add Kurt Etchegary when he is ready to return, is the one (with which) I'm going to finish the season."
Man, the book really is out on Lindy. Even Patty Roy knows the first thing you do when wondering what Lindy will do is look at how the kid's playing defensively

It's pretty clear what they are asking him to do. And I think he's doing a good job of it, as Roy notes.

Different player and situation. Edmonton is a team full of young guys and they don't have any expectations, plus everyone knew Yakupov was NHL ready right away and I'd say it's easier coming in as a young winger compared to a center. I'd compare Grigorenko more to Galchenyuk's situation in Montreal, another 18 year old center on a 5 game trial. I personally haven't watched much of him over there so don't know how he's doing.

That's how this team should be as well, in all honesty.

I'm with you on the other stuff, I haven't seen much Gally either.

After 60% of his test run, my meter is:

Keep_____:_________Return

He's a big body down the middle who is just oozing with talent, and he needs about 10 more games or so before his confidence hits the point where he breaks out. Not necessarily a freak point pace, but contributions and a general sense of being dangerous in the offensive zone.

Check back after the weekend.

I'd rather have grigs going out there trying to make something happen instead of going on there trying not to make mistakes.

Maybe he should be moved to wing for a few games to lesson his responsibility?

He hasn't shown he is struggling to handle any responsibility given to him, and has been one of the best at faceoffs.

How many games did it take Stamkos to get his 1st point?

Myers is what "struggling" looks like. Grigs doesnt look anywhere near that bad.

I didnīt say he looked bad and we are talking about Grigs who is here for OFFENSE, sure it is only 3 games but the poster said he has met all his responsibilities and the poster is happy with his production.

I am just pointing out he is falling short of offensive expectations and production. Ignoring it I think he just being defensive.

This exactly.

Stamkos, at 18, through 7 games.

Ballpark, 11:00 TOI per game. They stuck with him, and he ended up going 23/23 that season.

Grigorenko is FINE. It's going to be hard enough for the organization to make a decision after 5 games, let alone freaking 3.

At this point I think he's done enough to stay and tart working on becoming a confident player that is looking to make plays instead of avoid mistakes.

Honestly, we aren't keeping anyone out of the lineup that would be doing a much better job than him anyways I think.

Vanek - Hodgson - Pominville
Ott - Ennis - Stafford
Foligno - Hecht - Kaleta
Gerbe - McCormick - Scott/Ellis

Doesn't look much better if at all than when he's in the lineup and gaining experience.

But but but .... He's falling short of "offensive expectations"

I would argue that he has not been put, in an "offense" producing role. Therefore producing Offense is not expected to be his number 1 priority right now. Now, if he were slotted in the top two lines, "Offensive" production is pretty much demanded.

His linemates have been Ott, Gerbe, Hecht and Kaleta for COL. Knowing this, his output is exactly what I would expect under these circumstances.

You have an Ashton Martin lined up with a 20+ yr old pickup truck and several fill-in, John Deere lawn mowers. What did you expect?

The least suspenseful drag race ever?

Beech's point about Stamkos is right. I'm not expecting him to be Stamkos or comparing them in any way but let the kid get his feet wet and when he's ready he'll jump in.
