I hope Lindy realizes that Matt Ellis is the backbone of the team and puts him back in.

13 - 0
Ellis with 12 goals, Vanek with 1

I think Miller between the pipes will help us out tremendously, but our D needs to play tougher, especially when the puck is in our zone.

We also need scoring from someone other than our first line.

Through 3 games our players have scored 28 points. Vanek, Pominville and Hogsdon have 18 of those. Our only goals not scored by them are by Ott on a PP and and Myers on a PP.

It's still early... But there has to be a modicum of concern there. That said it could turn quick.

I'd like to see a small tweak with 82 moved to the third line and 9 to the second... Just to see.

....you're advocating breaking up the VHP line?

I'd like to see Ott and Foligno moved around for a game.

VHP
Ott - Ennis - Stafford
Foligno - Grigorenko - Kaleta
Gerbe - Hecht - Scott

Or alternatively for those that want to see more time out of Grigs:

VHP
Foligno - Grigs - Stafford
Ott - Ennis - Kaleta
Gerbe - Hecht - Scott

Put Grigs with a finisher like Stafford. Though looking at it now that 3rd line doesn't really do much to kickstart Ennis. :/

Gerbe adds nothing to this team. He's simply too small to play. His speed is good but it's nothing out of the ordinary as opposed to many other players. I simply don't get all the love for him around here.

It might be nit picking but my disdain for Sylvester grows every time I hear him call the game.

I think they bounce back tonight. I really hope we can get offense outside of the 1st line.

5-1 Buffalo win.

No soft goals to inflate the Canes and deflate the Sabres. HPV with a couple more goals, Ennis and Stafford wake up tonight as well.

It's even worse if you listen to it the on the radio. He just calls out the name of the player who has it and that's pretty much it. Commuting home last night and I had no idea what was going on.

I think Stafford has been the most visible player on that line. Liked how he decided midway through 2nd period yesterday that he was going to start taking the puck to the paint. Also, he's averaging 3.66 shots/game, on pace for about 176 over 48 games. If he can do that, assuming a shooting% of 10% (career: 12%), he should start producing in a hurry once his shooting% starts progressing to the mean.

The best thing about RJ is his ability to paint a perfect picture of what's happening so that even radio listeners feel the game.

Sylvester isn't a very good tv play by play guy to begin with, but if you're watching on tv you can see the play for yourself and you don't really need to be following along with what he's saying.

But as a radio play by play guy, he does not cut it. If he is going to be RJ's replacement hopefully the Sabres will find themselves a radio only play by play guy so that folks listening on the radio can follow along.
