Edit - Proposal has been modified.

To Calgary:

Couturier
2nd round pick

To Philly:

Bouwmeester (Flames pick up 2M of his salary for remainder of his deal)
TJ Brodie
4th round pick

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Previous proposal was:

To Calgary:

Couturier (Calgary desperately needs a Center)
2013 2nd round pick (Flames don't currently have one)

To Philly

Glencross (possibly the best contract value in the league)
2013 1st round pick (bound to be a high pick, possibly top 5)

Thoughts?

Why would the Flames do this? Seriously, the Flames pick could very easily be top three at the draft. The Flyers could get a player better than what you are giving up. Dumb suggestion allaround.

Well, Glencross is a 1st line winger, and Philly has good Center depth.

I contemplated making it Bouwmeester and a 1st to address Philly's current D situation, but know he isn't looked kindly upon here.

Terrible value to us. No reason for the flyers to do this. If Couts is traded , which he probably won't be, it would be for a young potential top pairing dman

This is pretty 1 sided for the Flames unless the Flyers believe the Flames will have a top-5 pick.

Interesting.

What are your thoughts on TJ Brodie?

I think he's a nice piece, but not enticing enough to move couturier for. If we really had the mind to move Couts, we'd just go after Subban.

Gotta disagree.

Glencross scored 24 and 29, respectively, in the past two years. He's playing on the top line in Calgary and only makes 2.5M and is under contract until 2015. Also has 2+2 in 3 games so far this year.

Couturier has one year of 13 goals, is playing on the second line, but has great potential, I'll give you that, but let's not discount what Glencross brings to this deal.

And that's not even factoring the picks.

I'd rather have J-Bo than Glencross tbh

Glencross is a great player. He is a 2nd line winger though, despite what anyone tells you. He is best suited to second line minutes.

Couturier on the other hand is a potential #1C. Throwing out the players respective stats is a little bit illogical, because if someone is trading for Couturier they are paying for potential, and Philly obviously knows this.

On paper it seems like close value for both teams, but in practice this doesn't address Philly's needs.

Hmmm.... fair enough.

What about

To Calgary:

Couturier
2nd round pick

To Philly:

Bouwmeester
TJ Brodie

To be fair, I think this is a bad deal for the Flames, their back end would be awfully thin if they pulled the trigger on something like this. But I acknowledge that might just be what is needed to bring in a Center with potential.

I'd take a long look at J-Bo around the deadline if I were Homer, I mean he could be a great pickup for the right price...

This seems a lot more reasonable to me. (Even though I know Bouw is gonna get thrown under the bus by everyone.)

Bouw is a top-pairing guy, cut and dry. Not interested in anyone who says he isn't. He isn't the best or a great top pairing guy, but he is one.

With that said. His cap hit is enormous and would be a huge stumbling block for this trade..Philly would probably have to send some back.

It would be really hard to part with Brodie, he was looking like a 3-4 guy coming into the season, but he really is starting to look like he could be a #2 guy in a season or two. He has been just fantastic out of the gate.

Having said that, this trade addresses the Flames biggest need, a #1C. I would do this but it would be hard to part with those pieces.

I think this is a good deal overall, but I still dont see Philly doing it, just because Bouwmeester is viewed as the NHL equivalent of Pink Eye.

As a Penguins fan, I'd love to see Couturier and a 2nd in a draft two rounds deep for J-Bo (at a 6.6M cap hit that will hamstring the Flyers next year) and Brodie.

As a realist, I know Holmgren doesn't consider that unless Calgary eats half of J-Bo's salary and even then probably doesn't do it.

Counter proposal:

Matt Read

for

Sven Baertschi

Read has a year where he scored 24 goals. Talk about one of the best contracts in the league. Read only makes 900k per year.

Baertschi only scored 3 goals in his entire career. Potential, pfft.

Since when is he a 1st line winger.

Good call.

Slight modification then perhaps.

Couturier

To Philly:

Bouwmeester (Flames pick up 2M of his salary for remainder of his deal)
TJ Brodie
4th round pick

And I agree, Brodie would be incredibly difficult to part with, has had a terrific year in the AHL and now to start the year with Calgary.

Merely stating that's where he is currently playing. No malice intended.
