didn't catch much of the game but did see the last 5 minutes of the game and OT.

I was a little embarrassed by the oiler fans after the goal was called back. I don't know if it was too many people having too much beer, or what.
the only time it is acceptable to throw anything on the ice is a hat for a hat trick and for the teddy bear toss.
other than that, grow up.

Yak's celebration, a bit over the top, but I don't mind it. A young rookie getting a big goal with 5 seconds left soon after getting screwed by the refs? totally understandable. good to see that kind of excitement and emotion by a player.

I have to think the call probably wouldn't have elicited such an emotional reaction if the refs hadn't been making some extremely bizarre calls all game long.

I think both teams will agree, that was one of the most strangely officiated games in recent memory.

If this team surprises and makes the playoffs, it will be an absolute mad house at Rexall.

I missed the 2nd half of the game, but a couple of comments on what I saw.

Refs - I know you are trying to call it how you are instructed, but some of those calls were weak both ways.

NHL - While it didn't happen in this game, I think it's complete BS that if you trip up on a draw and fall on the puck with your hand that you get a penalty. I might be able to live with the call on Smid, but accidental trip ups are going to happen a lot. Might as well put Hordi on the draw trip Kopitar and try take him off the ice for a 4-on-4.

Dubnyk - Night and day. Was actually moving side to side.

Smid - BS that you get two instigators. Heck why does he get one? Weren't Nolan's gloves off first? Either way teammates will respect that instigator.

Harti- No fault of your own, but I do question coach Kruger in putting you in the penalty box. Why aren't we putting someone that doesn't play PK that can score?

Stoll - Yep, we miss that aggressive play

Have to admit, the kings play an excellent game. that's how you play defense. look at how many times they blocked the shots and took away the lane. just an excellent, solid team. deserving cup champs.

and JoeStevens you're not the only one who misses Stoll. a player the oilers have never been able to replace.

I wonder if the officiating has to do with the fact that they missed preseason as well. It just seems off on the whole this year, and this game looked like the NFL's replacement ref's.

Whitney looks done. Time to put him in the press box and put Potter beside Fristic. I think Potter will look better not having to cover up for Whitney and having a defensive specialist beside him.

Smyth could use a game in the press box as well.

Dont know if its been posted yet, but love Sutter's response

Quote:
Gotta be a record for non five-on-five play. It's gotta be a record,” he said. “They [the fans] bombed the ice with stuff. It was awesome because they're all [hacked] off. ... I'm sure the league thinks it was a great-officiated game.

That said, I still felt like we still had many five star chances (Yakupov getting robbed and the RNH line had several big chances) to score before the final minute of craziness.

Never really thought it through how hard it's going to be for the borderline Western teams without having any weak Eastern teams to beat up on.

Also, looks like Thornton & Marleau still in beast mode.

The ref's blew the whistle earlier in the game while the puck was still loose and visible in the LA crease and either Yak or Gags put it in the net (can't recall which as the beer pace was keeping up with the penalties). The ref's essentially negated two Oiler goals. Of course people are gonna be pissed and through crap on the ice.

One thing I forgot to mention. Smyth and Hemmer a few couple times each going in and really helping the centers out. Was good to see.

Just got home from work and saw the highlights.

Holy **** did that building go nuts when Yak got that game tying goal. I don't think I've ever heard Rexall that loud during a regular season game.

Beautiful hand-eye on that too. Awesome celly as well.

Not a huge poster but just had to say how glad I was when the Oilers tied the game and won in OT. The disallowed goal was one of the biggest BS calls I've ever seen. I'm not an Oiler fan (too many Jet beat downs from the 80's from Wayne and the boys) but am really enjoying watching your team play. Best of luck!

Belanger and Fistric were huge in this game.
Petrell too on the 5-on-3.

Yak, Nuge, and the kids steal the thunder but it was the grinders who kept us in the game and put us in a position to win.

Very positive win.

Also, Nick Schultz...aside from the one huge giveaway on the Carter goal was rock solid again.

Tambo's moves the last 12-18 months are looking pretty damn good after the rought start he had as GM

What moves would those be besides drafting 1st overall and signing Schultz?

Signing Belanger, in particular now that his role is more defined.

Trading for Nick Schultz.

Not signing Hemmer long term to let everything shake out with the kids.

The Hall and Eberle deals.

Adding Fistric.

He's not going to be ranked in anyone's top 10 GM list, but he isn't at the bottom of the pack either.

So as I'm coming out of my sleep this morning the first thing that comes to my mind is how sexy the assistant service manager at Lexus in kelowna and is quickly replaced with how perfect that win was in spite of the reffing.

Yak's epic goal and celly or Hall's magical play?

Thankfully Pierre Mcguire was calling the game, but what a night!

A simple signing like Petrell has had benefits. Take Petrell out then we are forced to play a rookie.

Also add Eager...who will be a monster under Krueger. Also Hordi...great team guy who should draw in against Calgary.

Also claiming Jones off waivers and getting a good 3rd liner for free. And even though he's done now, I thought Sutton was a great addition last year.

doesn't make it the right thing to do, nor does it make it ok to do. and being drunk is no excuse, either.

whatever... Like you said.. u missed most of the game so have no idea what the fans had to go through.. I dont blame them one bit for littering the ice.

It was a not a game of hockey but a game of reffing... even after a thrilling finish this game was less entertaining than the 6-3 thrashing by SJ ... Both teams and the fans were sick of the refs by 3rd period and were just shaking their heads in the end.
