Nah, I'm at work, and she doesn't even care about sports.

In the immortal words of Clarence, "You can't go to no bar to find a nice woman. you gotta go to a nice place, a quiet place like a library, there's good women there..." (if he were in 2013 Brooklyn, he'd add the food co-op to his list).

Seriously, though, flirting with bartenders is depressing. Especially in Brooklyn. You can't throw a rock without hitting attractive, single women. It's why even schlubs like us can do pretty well.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Hey speak for yourself buddy!

Yeah, I never got the point in flirting with anyone who relies on tips as part of their salary. Any smart waiter/bartender will be nice to you in order to maximize income (unless you act like a dick to them), especially if it's a pretty girl dealing with a guy or group of guys.

Grab a Beer.

Before or after a game, these are the best spots:
4th Ave Pub: A huge beer selection, plus, free popcorn!
Der Schwarze Kölner: The Fort Greene beer garden is open until 1 a.m. on weekdays and 4 a.m. on weekends
High Dive: The beer's cheap at this Park Slope joint.
Mission Dolores: A beer-heavy bar in an old garage that opens midafternoon and doesn't close until 4 a.m.
Pacific Standard: Some fantastic beer on tap at this laid-back California bar.

Or Something Stronger ...
Flatbush Bar(n): The next-door restaurant is a neighborhood favorite, but it closes at 11. The bar stays open until 3 a.m.
Frank's Cocktail Lounge: The Fort Greene throwback is much-loved for a reason — it's outstanding.
Hank's Saloon: A dive bar in the best possible sense.
Soda Bar: There's a laid-back vibe and tons of seating, which makes this a great place for a postshow whiskey.
Union Hall: It's a fifteen-minute walk from the arena, but there's bocce!
Weather Up: High-end cocktails at this white-tiled spot on Vanderbilt.

.
Which one is closest to Barclay's?

I'm down for a Thursday/Friday night. A bar near Barclay's would be best but there are some in lower manhattan to convert.

Whoever said there are no NYI bars in Manhattan (or LI) is correct. Got to take one over and make it our own. Botta used to have get togethers at a midtown bar when he was running IPB but that was only like twice.

Just saw Billy Jaffe tweeted about StoutBar, however it is next to the Garden.

I've seen the place get crowded before for certain pregames, but I think it would be ripe for the taking if we brought a good crew once every month or so for a weeknight game.
How small?

We could start there and grow the bar fanbase until it gets bigger.

The Brooklyn Facebook group that used to meet can maybe join.

So, I called Woodwork. Basically, they're nuts when they've got Champions League Football, and that runs on Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, but not every week. Schedule Here: http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionslea...hes/index.html

I can't do Wednesday nights, anyway.

Cheers,

So, let's try Woodwork. Isles play the Habs on Thursday 2/21, 7:30 start. Thursdays might be pretty good as it leaves most people with only one more day to deal with in the work week. Any takers for that game?

Yeah, I could do that. I'm working the previous weekend, so I might even take Friday off.

Bumping this thread so we can see if 2/21 will work. What say you NYC posters? Can we have a meetup at Woodwork near Barclays for this game?

LI posters are of course welcome too, if you want to make the commute.

LMAO tell me when you find a Hockey Bar in NYC. There is a bar in Williamsburg called Toronto and there is NOTHING Canadian about the bar.

Still looking for a workable bar near the arena and near the Barclay's Center subway stop. I know every borough in NYC like the back of my hand except Brooklyn but that's probably going to change in a few years. Possible for 2/21 but like Rambo I go day by day.

Dan-o said Wood Work was a good place to try and it's a few blocks away from the arena. SHould we just go there. You can take pretty much any train down there and make it to the bar in just a few blocks walk.

So here's the relation between Woodwork and Barclay's:

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=W...t=m&z=17&via=1

It's a .5 mile walk, which is not too far. It's also not too close. Still, I'm flexible as long as we're on the G, F, L, A or C lines. Bedford is not my favorite, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Yeah, I'm easy too. I mean, in terms of convenience, anywhere in Williamsburg would be easiest for me. But if we want to try and find a place that we can go to consistently that's not too far from Barclays, we should probably concentrate on finding a place near there for this first meeting.

But let's let the majority rule. Maybe we should take a vote as to where most of us want to go? Let's come up with 4 or 5 places to choose from and everyone list their order of preference.

So far we got:
Woodwork (Prospect Heights, nearish the Barclays)
4th Down (Williamsburg)
Mullanes (Fort Greene, closer to Barclays)

Don't know why I didn't think of it before, but there's another option: Mullane's. I've never been in there, but it's always been conspicuous on the walk back and forth from the G to BAM/Rose. The red paint.

Cheers,

This looks like a decent option. It appears they are a Nets bar, but there's no local basketball game on 2/21. Should probably be a slow sports night. It's also closer to the Barclays. I'll add it to the list.

Let's get one or two more suggestions....

Stout bar is great, I spent many a Happy hours there when I worked in the area. It gets packed during happy hour with fans going to the games.

I'm going to vote Mullanes, because of location. It's right at the Fulton G, which is super convenient (for me at least), and hanging out in Fort Greene always makes me feel good. And if I could ever get my wife to be a hockey fan, doing it through Fort Greene would be a nice hook. (Although she'll be on kid duty on 2/21).

Cheers,

Dan-o

I'm partial to this joint as well. Being right off the G means a super easy commute for me too, plus it's in Ft. Greene, PLUS it just seems like a no-frills type of place which I like for watching sports.

It should also be noted that it's easy to get to from the 2, 3, 4, 5, B, C, D, N, Q, & R trains.
