A very poignant article considering the situation:

Why do Habs fans insist on eating our own?

I don't know... this kind of trade could be interesting, but I feel we will regret trading Subbie-doo, no matter what we get in return. He will flourish, no doubt about it, and judging by his progression/potential could become Doughty-like in terms of effectiveness for his team.

After Leclair and Desjardins, Subban? No thanks, I want Subban wearing le bleu-blanc-rouge crisse.

Agreed.. Trading PK would be a bad move IMO. TBH I've never bought into the hype that is Sean Couturier. Yes he as the potential to be a very good player but Flyer fans way overrate this guy IMO.

His value isn't AMAZING right now I don't think.

You think we could get fair value for him on the trade block right now?

definitely agree with you on Subban... but don't on couturier. Don't forget how young he is! Sure he hasn't dominated offensively yet... but he shut down malkin in the playoffs last year as a teen, while contributing a little bit of offense.

The hands are there, the size is there... I think he is going to turn into what jordan staal was expected to be like.

Ugh, I meant within reason...

Obviously we're not gonna get Malkin and Letang for Subban, otherwise it would be a good deal..

There ya go. Can we stop arguing over these details we have already argued NONSTOP for the better part of the week?
First of all, holy crap, another day, another thread!!

We're going to have to make a Price/Halak vs Bergevin/Subban thread or god forbid a Subban vs Markov one (or Diaz FTM)

I have to say, even though a lot of us disagree, we certainly are passionate. I also think that our views (except for the "trade Subban" crowd) are similar to the negotiation. And in saying that, it makes me think that we can come towards the center.

Exactly what PPP said above. I'm moving from my position of him having to respect organizational policies, putting in his dues after an ELC (which would have him at 3-4M. I'm willing to go long-term 5.5, but not more. He can't have one of the top salaries in the league. Just because other teams are foolish with their money or have more to dispose of doesn't mean it's the same for us, but we can afford to pay PK 5.5 for 6 years and it's (I think) what Benn got (but for one extra year). I hope Subban realizes that's a reasonable deal and Bergy pulls off the deal and in doing so actually makes a good organizational move. Is there a twitter hashtag combo, #makeithappen #PKSubban yet?

Maybe I missed something, but where is Couturier coming from? Have they put him on the block? Is there a reason Philly would be moving him?

^^ Ummm, they have been identified as one of the teams who has asked about Subbie-doo, for one..

And he would be an interesting piece coming back, haven't heard anything official about Couturier yet though, just fan speculation I think.

Well Philly's D is old and plagued with injuries, so it's not surprising at all to hear them interested in Subban.

What's, realistically speaking, his value? I doubt we can get the same value (in 1 player) in return.

Just a Twitter rumour floating around right now.

Back in the summer, Holgren was unwilling to consider Couturier for Subban or Weber in a trade situation. Today, with all of the injuries, he's supposedly more comfortable to part with him if it means getting Subban.

Again, it's just a rumour.

And fans from ALL NHL teams do the same with their prospects also if you want to go that far instead of signaling out Hab fans. I hope the kid turns out as great as many think he'll be but I'd still rather keep Subban.

But... The reason why they'd want Subban is because Pronger's career is pretty much over.

Not to knock Couturier but in terms of hockey age they are very close. Forwards often peak 2-3 years before d-men. Couturier hasn't reached full potential, but I don't see his potential at his position as being on par with Subban. Couturier profiles from a top 3rd line center to a top 2nd line center...maybe #1 on a weak team. Subban has the potential to be a #1 on just about any team and top 5 overall, he can be a force at both ends of the ice due to his frame, mobility and skills. Plus defense is a slightly more premium position than center.

I'm sick and tired of Habs fans in general for the very same reasons.

This sort of mentality is also opposite from seeing things for what they are. That a player's performance is a result of his immediate environment, but a team's performance is the result of many good players mixing into a good environment.

Who's to say a guy like Markov couldn't have had a similar career to what Lidstrom had if he played in his place with the same environment, the same players. Who's to say how McDonaugh would've responded playing in the Habs environment last season instead of getting shifts with one of the best two-way centers in the league and Marian Gaborik.

People are way too hung up on immediate individual performance. Most people can't see the big picture.
