Schneider or Luongo

Simple, which goalie would you rather have?

Don't over complicate it with "I don't know if the poll means for one year one decade one month one day one game or what" - just pick a goalie

Luongo's far more proven to be consistent. I take Luongo 9/10 if nothing else is considered. As a Leaf fan, trading for former backups and hoping they turn into starters has not worked out at all for us.

Schneider. Luongo may be a bit better now but considering Schneider's age, potential, and lack of a huge contract it's not a question.

For 1 year its Luongo but beyond that considering contracts and age its Schneider.

I dont get why Luongo even gets the blame for losses when their offense doesn't show up and he plays good.

Schneider. Younger, more potential, hasn't peak'd. Is NOT a proven choker.

He's just an unproven choker.

For the next 3-4 yrs, i would want Luongo.
After Luongo retires... i might lean Schneider.

To make it a fair poll, it should Dubnyk vs Schneider. Much more comparable since we are talking about 'potential not yet achieved'.

Imagine Dubnyk behind Vancouver's D and president winning teams vs the bottom dwelling Oilers... i would be curious to see how good his numbers would of been. Pretty Schneider-like i would imagine.

Canucks fans know that, come playoff time, Luongo is as far from consistent as one can be. He steals games at times, but then can fall flat on his face as well. He is an emotional goaltender, and often if he allows a goal he'll dwell on it and leave himself, for several minutes, at risk of letting in another. He frequently loses composure if he lets in a bad one and lacks the mental toughness to recover quickly and to persevere. He can completely steal games at times, though. If anything, he's a streaky goaltender with more good days than bad. In many cases, you can tell early in a game whether he's at his best or if he'll struggle that night.

Luongo is certainly an upgrade over any of the goaltenders the Leafs have had in years, and I think he would help that franchise. Consistency isn't his greatest characteristic, however.

So much wrong with your Luongo assessment it could be used as a pyschosocial exhibit of the effects of watching hockey games with the TV unplugged and reading HF.

If that's the way you want to look at it I can't argue. Either way Lu IS a proven choker and will be until he get's a cup as a starting goalie.

Lundqvist, Rinne, Price, Miller -> all chokers.

If i was Gillis i would trade schneider... why?

1) Better return
2) Luongo (ATM) is the better goalie
3) The team is in win now mode, so unless the nucks are tanking, age wouldnt really matter.

the only thing is the higher cap with lunongo

Yup, I agree. Plus we have solid goalie prospects in Lack and Cannata, so long term it's not a big problem either. Unless someone is willing to deal an impact player for Luongo, I'd rather trade Schneider.

Interesting perspective, that's for sure...

how about:

to Buphalo: Schneider, Ballard, 6th round pick

to VANCOUVER: Myers, Stafford, 1st round pick

They are both close but I picked Schneider because he lets in less goals and better in shootouts. Luongo falls on his belly way too much and is terrible at shootouts. But Schneider does still have much more to proove.

Please don't make this a Luongo trade thread, there's one on the Trade section for that.

Buphalo does not need a goalie. You know they have that pretty decent Miller dude

Special teams was the reason for the switch. Luongo played good enough to win on a team that doesn't allow multiple shorthanded odd man rushes every powerplay.

Had Schneider faced the same number of shorthanded scoring chances, he wouldn't have been much better.
