I remember at the 2011 draft the reaction to the selection of Brodin was sort of muted. My initial thought was that we got jobbed out of taking Dougie Hamilton who went one spot ahead of Brodin. Amazing how much the hype for Brodin has been building since then. Some of it seems warranted given the reports on him. Having said that it seems like the expectations for him are inordinately high at this point. I hope there will be some patience with him as he will undoubtedly have some growing pains as a 19 year old making the transition to the NHL. I'm excited to see the kid play but I'm not drinking the kool aid just yet; been burned too many times before on guys who I thought were going to make a big impact and then failed to deliver.
As an aside, I wonder if the Wild had Brodin rated higher that Dougie Hamilton. I suspect they did.

There were reports that if Larsson was gone when the Devils picked they were gonna go with Brodin.

"Muted"? The atmosphere around here was downright UGLY!! Just as it was when Granlund was selected the year previous. There were also catcalls when Dumba's name was announced this past year.
Yes. They did. So did Lou Lamoriello... So did Bob McKenzie...
Thanks. So Lamoriello had Brodin #2 behind Larsson. Interesting. Obviously Peter Chiarelli had Hamilton ahead of Brodin. Time will tell. Hope it's in our favor.

To be fair, that's because Forsberg, Trouba and Grigorenko were still all on the board. Personally, I wanted Forsberg or Trouba over Dumba, but Dumba was my 3rd ranked guy on the board at that point. I wasn't too disappointed with the selection, and I certainly don't understand people being upset enough to catcall it. But, everyone's a critic, they say.
On topic, though. I'm worried for Brodin a little because I thought he'd get this year to adjust in Houston, but I'm excited for him as well because he is a good one. Really hope he turns into our Lidstrom/Kenny Jonsson hybrid.
I can see why the Wild were higher on Brodin though than Hamilton.
Hamilton is going to be an offensive force in the NHL. That kid can really, really read the offensive zone. But aside from that, he's pretty average.
Brodin is excellent in so many areas and, though he'll never had as many points as Hamilton, he'll put up points just by playing smart hockey and getting pucks to the net.
i get my wild video segments wrong but didn't the react to the hamilton pick with relief on some video? We got one of our guys. one of our two? something like that.
edit: and they had 100% confidence his offensive question marks were a product of his coaching/system in sweden.
But that's not really his game, at least when I've seen him.
I've never seen the kid play, but I'm assuming they'll want him to play well in all zones with his rare combination of vision, skating, and size. The way everyone talks about him, it reminds me a lot of a Brent Burns-type player.

Yes, in the first year of Becoming Wild they showed the 2011 Draft video of the Wild's table and when Hamilton got picked by Boston there was some visible relief/excitement.
