I don't know why so many Habs fans are eager to dump Kaberle right now. While Markov has been in beast mode and Diaz has been great as his D partner on the PP, Kaberle hasn't played any worse than the rest of the D corps so far.

why would the Wings trade a former first round pick who's having a nice rookie year in the AHL for Kaberle?

Problem is they should not play him with Markov on the PP since they're both mainly passers. Kaberle should be on the second PP unit with a shooter.

I've mainly seen Markov with Diaz and Kaberle with Bouillon (lol).

No thanks. Kabs is still a good player ... but not what Det needs. We need 1 (or 2) steady physical presences.

What id rather see is a trade now for a guy like Robyn Regehr or Douglas Murray or Volchenkov.

Ie, Cleary + for Reghr... a 3rd rounder + prospect (or Quincey) for Doug Murray.

Kronwall Ericsson
Smith Regehr (Regehr was a good partner for a young Phaneuf)
Murray White
Kindl
(CC is IR'd allyear ... who are we kidding)

This isnt the prettiest d-corps in the world ... but it balances a puck mover with a big steady guy on each pairing and at the very least will make us harder to play against and take the physical strain off our smaller dmen.

Get Dekeyser come hell of high water this year.
Bring Ouellet along quicker than Smith ... 2 years AHL max.
If Kindl grabs a spot by the balls this year and runs with it let White walk this summer and use his cap-space to give Filp/Howie a raise.

No, he has indeed been just fine. But when Subban comes back, there will be 8 D on the roster. And we know that we'll probably need to buy somebody out in the summer... who... unknown. At any rate, even if we don't *need* to, it will become increasingly less desirable to have salary cap inefficiencies on the roster, and Kaberle still represents an inefficiency, even while playing ok. So we know he's going to be out at some point. If teams have a need now, and we are able to get any value for him at all, that could be better than the alternative. OR not. That's the point of asking around if teams are interested.

There is no way you can move Kaberle until the Subban case is resolved.
but that should happen soon
Kaberle did have a decent year in Montreal last season and he hasn't been on the ice for a goal against yet this year
Still skates well and an excellent passer
Give him an appropriate partner and he would do excellent in the 5 slot with PP time

Most teams would get him for very cheap right now. If you wait until injuries happen or trade deadline his value will probably go up

as far as cap space is concerned, if they trade Kaberle montreal doesn't really have much left to buy out, Gionta only has 1 year left, Budaj is up this year and we can probably resign him for same or less to watch games. Leaves only Moen at 1.850 but i"m sure Habs would find takers for him too. Si Cap shouldn't be a huge factor moving forward as some contract come to term in upcoming years
