He is a legitmate 6-2 200 plus player as pro , with offensive instincts and nice hands. Have also read before that he does play that 200 foot game the Jets really want/like and has some grit to go with goal scoring ability.
Interesting to see his point production over the last few years , has a chance to put up really nice numbers this year , which would set him up , potentially , for a big senior seaon next.
Lots of plusses , could be a very good late pick that MAY have an NHL future.
Let's hope Olsen becomes the JETS version of Jamie Benn.
Benn was a 5th rounder and Olsen a 6th. Not to mention both are products of the Kelowna Rockets.
Damn. Kelowna scored 8 last night and Olsen was held pointless.
He's got a game tonight and tomorrow.
what a bust
I'm actually very amped with the play of our late picks:
Lowry, Kosmo, Olsen, Kasdorf, and Hellbuyck are playing as good as you could possibly hope. It's obviously waaaay to early to make any declarations yet, but it's nice to see them not looking useless yet.
Would be nice! One late round gem on a team that generally drafts well can be huge.
Completely agree.
If you draft well , hit home runs , doubles , singles generally when you should , and then get that one or two unexpected later round gems , you elevate your talent base and move your team up the contender ladder.
Now it is a stretch to think any late round pick could be a Jamie Benn , but when that happesns , what a huge plus.Hoping Lowry becomes a triple instead of maybe a single , that would be great start for this regime re later picks contributing much more than what would be counted on.
... so much for the Foote comparisons in being a defensive D only with 2nd PP...
I felt the same way when Craig Button compared him to Adam Foote , but he was on 1290 a week or so ago and said , hey Gold Medal winnER , 2 time Stanley Cup winner isn't all that bad.... and I do agree with him when he puts it that way.
I suspect Button will at some point compare him to another Dman , or Foote like with offensive production
Thanks, I should have probably specified, how has he been doing lately?
We were getting some updates before the World Juniors, but I don't think we've seen any updates since.
I haven't watched him much post-WJC (1 game) and we have a guy at AIH who is a STH for Michigan but hasn't written anything recently and I haven't talked to him lately either.
What I do know is that Merrill has returned as his D partner and has made them the most dangerous D pairings in the CCHA... unfortunately this hasn't turned around the Wolverines as they are 1-4 in their last 5 games (although Trouba got second star for one of those).
Serville hasn't played for them since the 8th. He tends to play shut-down role for them.
Anyone know why the Jets put Dekanich on waivers? Trying to move him?
He's back from injury.
IceCaps brought up Carozzi due to Dex being injured just before the lockout ended. This would have happened at the end of the lockout like all the other players had he not been injured.

I never really liked the Adam Foote comparison. Being a fan of all those great Colorado teams, I like Adam Foote and all, but I see Trouba more in the Rob Blake mould. Big, physical, can skate and can contribute offensively.

Yea Foote just isn't the right comp and I am suprised Button is sticking with it still.
