Jake Gardiner to EDM

What would it take for the Oilers to re-unite him with his Wisconsin linemate Justin Schultz?

An act of God? Getting sent down doesn't suddenly make him available.

He's missed a month + of playing time. He needs some conditioning.

He's not available. Unless we add to him for one of the big four.

Or your 1st depending on where you guys are ranked at the TDL

I don't think he'd be made available for anyone outside of the big five.

He got sent down because he recently had a concussion. It's a conditioning stint not a trade bait.

Oilers/Leafs don't exactly make good trading partners.

Outside of the young forwards there is nothing I'd want from the Oilers.

Gardiner++ for one of Yakupov, Hall, Eberle, or RNH and I'm sure the Oilers wouldn't do that.

Why would you do this to these two fanbases... Just asking for trouble. Leafs will want to package gardiner for one of our big guns. Oilers won't give up any of big 5 for anything Toronto has. Will descend into madness... Pointless.

Regardless, what would Toronto want in return for Gardiner?

TML fans will say one of the big 4. Which is justified

But personally I feel our defense prospects are strong enough and Klefbom is better suited to be his partner.

Also our forward prospects are pretty weak so Id like to keep the big 4.

maybe Gagner and Mps

Gards+ for one of RNH, Hall, Eberle, or Yak, but Oilers wouldn't do that so it ain't hapenin

Nope to that.

I'd probably do Klefbom + Oilers 1st. Might be an overpayment, but that's what it will take without giving up the big 4

Oilers 1sts are always locks for 1st overall lol

Something surrounding Jake + for Eberle, Hall, or RNH

Bottom-feeder teams dont usually make good trading partners lol

edit: forgot about the Edm 1st. That would be good

Yeah, they're the ultimate trolls. They could end up with the 14th overall and win the lottery and since the rule changed, they'd be picking 1st.

One of the big 4. Sure the Leafs would add but there's no interest in downgrading, trading for old players, or tweeners like Gagner. Still interested? I thought not.

Haha exactly. I'll take macKinnon and Klefbom for Gardiner

It was implied, when you mentioned he was sent down to the Marlies. He's returning from an injury, and some game time would do him good before he plays with the big boys.

At this point, I'd say Gardiner is pretty close to untouchable for Toronto. He's an intriguing young player, possessing a real nice toolbox, who did quite well in his first season. They just have zero reason to move him unless you can put together a package that makes Toronto a better team... and I don't think you can, without giving up one of your own untouchables.

Leafs aren't interested in downgrading. And no a possible lottery pick is a gamble -- especially since Edm looks much improved this year.

Which is why you make the trade in the offseason imo

Exactly.

The only reason why anyone of the young guys on our team get traded will be because we found a way to upgrade at a key position.

If a player like Duchene was available...Gardiner+____ for him makes sense from the Leafs POV.

It doesn't make sense for the Leafs to trade Gardiner for Gagner. I don't see how he's much different than Bozak +/- a few points.

Edmonton won't finish near the 1st overall this year. I see them pushing for the playoffs but eventually losing out on a spot finishing 10th-14th overall.

I think a team like Calgary is a much better bet at bottoming out this year.

Could Toronto be intersted in Dubnyk ? or do you guys consider him to be another Scrivens\Reimer.
