None at all and thats where he should stay for now. IMO Despres is good not great... as a prospect and as a future player.

When you have a Whitney or a Pouliot there's a fine line you have to walk with them because you want their high end game to blossem while correcting mistakes. Despres doesn't have that high end game. I think his game is more about being solid, mobile and safe. Kind of like an Orpik or Jovo without the hitting.

Him sitting right now isn't that big a deal.

Haha... I knew you would notice. That last game was brutal.

Useless vets get roles. There's no plan for or demonstrated ability from the coaching staff to develop young talented players (Morozov). There's no accountability. The only real difference is that Sid and Geno have replaced Mario and Jagr.

Well, if the pattern holds, it should be another one and done, and the GM will go to a hard ***.
I would welcome that change with open arms.

I wish I could make the entire Pens team listen to this right before they hit the ice. Especially Engo, Glass, Orpik, and Cooke... Pair all 4 of them up and have Vitale center then just send them out to instill pure ****ing fear into the Jets!

Now we're talking. I think this teams become candy ass and stale. There's a way to be the nice guy and still crack the whip every once in a while.

Look at Paul Maurice. Nice guy, knows his hockey... whats he done?

I do think you're short-changing him a bit. He's more of a two-way guy. He has a lot more offensive potential than a guy like Orpik.

Yeah kind of like Martin but I don't think he has the sense offensively or defensively. Defense is such a taught position that I'm hoping that he can just aquire good habits over time.

I wasn't talking about the words, but the chart which tells you all you need to know. Depres has by far the most favorable minutes (lower right) of all Pens D. Started nearly 65% of his shifts in the O zone against 3rd / 4th line players. Considering this, he only had a slightly positive Corsi (blue circle is +, size of circle shows relative corsi to teammates). In that situation, you'd expect him to be near your corsi leaders (large blue circles) if he was "like" or as good as the other players in more difficult situations.

Picard did significantly better against tougher competition FWIW.

You know who that reminds me of? Vitale. Not for a defensive zone draw. But, how about a couple of shifts, at least in a game like Toronto where you're supposedly trying everyone.

FACT: Bylsma has shown NOTHING to suggest that he knows how to handle the development of any young player, of any pedigree, beyond his getting a bubble NHL role.
If Talbot comes close to his offensive production of last year, then maybe I'll start coming around. He won't though, so I won't either.

And I'll ask again: What young player? Where's this litany of talent that's been destroyed playing with the Pens and has gone on to bigger and better things with some other team?

You have nothing to base this on. Zero.

Yeah I guess I do rant on about it. It is one of the reasons I don't go to as many games as I used to, despite having season tickets. I grew up with super loud crowds in the mid to late 70's at the civic arena. As a kid I loved that atmosphere. It was a huge part of the hockey experience for me. Things changed with the drastic rise in ticket prices after the Cup wins.

Seems whenever they come to Columbus, they have more of a home atmosphere compared to Consol.

I love our current divisional setup, but I would love to switch out NJ with Columbus, lol. That would be great. We could develop a great rivalry.

I would love it for the fact that I could go to 3 Pens games a year. . The potential for a rivalry is there, mainly between the fans.

Vokoun tonight, Fleury on Sunday. The Pens are citing Vokoun's miserable numbers against Ottawa for the decision.

Anybody in the Pittsburgh area having trouble with Root Sports? I don't live in the area but my cable provider caries the channel and I'm having issues on the HD and analog channels both ... thinking I might catch one of the Canadian streams
