Houston moving from the NL to the AL means that there's interleague happening basically all season long in short spurts instead of as a solid block of games in the middle of the season.

Did we do a Bonifacio thread title? Or Thole? Either present potentially rich opportunities...

Thole, the guy starting in Buffalo?

Seriously though, has there been any update on who will be the backup?

I can't believe that Bourn can't find a job. The 1st rd compensation pick is killing him. There'd be some legit interest otherwise. The Mets, who desperately need a CFer, can't sign him because they'd lose the 11th overall pick. Thats just terrible.

That's not what's killing Bourn value. It's probably killing Lohse's value but not Bourn. Bourn has kinda just ran out of suitors because teams like Nats/Braves/Phillies etc... have found their CF and the teams that could use a CF like Bourn, are not in a position to spend that much because they are rebuilding.

A rebuilding team like the Mets just don't want to give up a top pick to sign him. If their pick was protected however, they would.

If he lowers his asking price, I imagine he will start gathering a ton of interest.

No such thing as a Type A or Type B anymore, nor is bottom half of the teams are protected. It's only the bottom 10 teams now.

I seriously hope they get rid of this compensation crap in the next CBA.

from the stupid injuries department:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/88...ling-6-8-weeks

Carl Pavano ruptured his spleen while shovelling snow out of his driveway.

Yep.

Brent Sopel threw his back out picking up a cracker that his infant son dropped on the floor. that seems worse somehow.

Or when Clint Barmes broke his collarbone carrying a package of deer meat up the stairs to his apartment.

Apparently Todd Helton gave him the meat. Initially after the injury, Barmes lied and said it was just a bag of groceries because he didn't want to embarrass Helton. Somehow. I guess. Because it's somehow Helton's fault that Barmes is a klutz.

the article (which is attributed to the AP, so it's not just someone at TSN) says that the Yankees believe that Youkilis can still play 3rd in A-Rod's absence. Not that Youk at 3rd now is much better.

Our 1st is protected, so we only lose a 2nd if we were to sign him. I'd love to flip Rasmus and sign him, but with the turf here and the fact that we spent so much already, I don't know if that will be possible.

ESPN named their top 10 teams of all time earlier this week.

#10 was the 1993 Blue Jays.

Quote:
They were the first team in almost two decades to win back-to-back titles, thriving because of their deep and well-constructed roster. They had developed players like John Olerud (who had an OPS+ of 186), Pat Hentgen and Juan Guzman, traded for Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter in a blockbuster that took only hours to complete, and became masters of the midseason deal -- and in 1993, that meant adding Rickey Henderson.
The Blue Jays filled out their team with older, established stars such as Paul Molitor, who hit .332 that season; Olerud, Molitor and Alomar finished 1-2-3 in the batting race. It was a different time in Toronto: This team, coming off a championship season in 1992 and playing in SkyDome, drew more than 4 million fans. What a show it was.
