Pens-Flames

Lee Stempniak for 2nd '13

Good two-way player with a heavy shot and decent speed. Yeah, he's an incredibly streaky player, but when he's hot he's a good top 6 player.. He'll get his chances on Sid's wing.

The Pens need a RH shot in the top 6, and this bumps Tangradi off the top 2 lines where he has no business being. (At least not right now anyway)

The Flames get a top 60 pick in a deep draft. Feaster has done a good job of drafting since taking the reigns, hopefully they can get a player in what will likely be the 56-60 range.

Kunitz-Crosby-Stempniak
Dupuis-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Kennedy
Glass-Vitale-Adams

I believe Stempniak would be a great fit in Pittsburgh. He isn't an elite player, but he's a good complementary player with top 6 skills..

Discuss..

It would be an improvement right now and the deal seems fair, so really all I have is some little hope that the Pens can find better, but would not lose my **** all over the internet, if it happened.

If the Pens can expand the parameters to include Martin I am all for it.

You'll be including your first then.

I agree, but there isn't many top end RW'ers available.. Perry or Iginla would be nice, but Malkin and Letang will need extensions; Letang will be in for a hefty raise..

Stempniak would be a good fit, and won't cost a top prospect or a high pick.. He's under performed for the most part, and if anything can keep him consistent it'll be 87 at centre.

He's a solid all around player, I think he'd fit the Penguins system very well.

I like it. I would prefer to give a 3rd, but I realize that might be a bit of a lowball.

Your lines are a little off though-

Dupuis-Crosby-Stempniak
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Kennedy
Glass/Vitale/Tangradi/Jeffery/Adams

I think the Pens can find something better for a 2nd.

i'm not against that deal but i'd hope the Pens could find a better winger out there for a 2nd-round pick.

Who though? Anyone I can think of would cost significantly more then a second, or currently play for a playoff hopeful team who wouldn't be interested in prospects/picks..

I'd do it. I like Stempniak and think he's going to have a good season.

The Pens wouldn't do it though.

I'd probably do it. Makes guys like Kennedy more expendable. Would want Calgary to take some salary back though.

Why? Worst thing that can happen is Stempniak is a good 3rd liner whose paid accordingly.. Best thing would be Crosby getting a RW who can score 20-25 on a good contract..

Tanner Glass is playing on the 3rd line tonight... Tangradi isn't ready for the NHL from what I've seen. This deal improves Pittsburgh's depth on the wing while potentially receiving a winger for Crosby... If Stempniak gets hot at the right time, this deal could pay off huge..

Every trade is a gamble. This one is worth that gamble for Pittsburgh in my opinion. That second round pick isn't helping win a cup any time soon.

Stempy isn't worth a second rounder. He doesn't solve a problem for Pittsburgh, so pass.

I've liked Stempniak's game and actually wanted the Penguins to acquire him when he was on the Phoenix Coyotes. A 2nd seems fair, Shero traded 2nd round picks for Gill and Leopold so it's not like a 2nd round pick gets you higher quality players.

Seems like a good trade to me.

The way we handle second-rounders, I'd do this in a heartbeat.

Good, fair proposal, OP. Solid.

Upgrade over Tyler Kennedy costing $500,00 more, signed through 2014, can play on Malkin's LW, that moves players down to their rightful positions (Kennedy on the 3rd, Glass on the 4th).

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Stempniak-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Kennedy
Glass-Vitale-Adams

If that works, then in 2013-14...

Kunitz-Crosby-Bennett
Stempniak-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Dupuis
Glass-Vitale-___ (Jeffrey/Tangradi) or Adams if they choose to re-sign him.

Stempniak is a 12-goal a year scorer. How is that an upgrade? Sounds like you want to make a trade just for the sake of, instead of acquiring a potential difference maker, not a role player with little upside.

I wouldn't trade Whirling Dervish for a 2nd rounder. Yeah he's streaky, but when he's on he's pretty awesome. I'd rather just keep him and give him the whip when need be.
