I don't even like the guy, but he's played well enough to stay in I guess. He's prone to a few gaffes but most defensemen are (shocking, I know).

Just get him off the first pair PP.

Kostka with Phaneuf is fine. He's doing well enough defensively to play there. As some have said before, he just can't be counted on to have offensive production. Get him off the PP and we'll be back to liking him exactly where he is in no time.

We replaced Gunnar with Kostka

Neither of them is a top pairing defenseman.

Kostka was great on the PP in the AHL. Watched him dominate there many times.

Too bad it didn't translate instantly in the NHL where the pros are ACTUALLY better at PK (e.g. getting in shooting lanes, blocking shots, etc. etc.). I'd give him some more games or so to see if he can make that adjustment.

4 games....let me repeat...four. People have to calm down, yes he isn't strong and what not but give him a chance, he's not a first pair PP specialist that we can agree with.

Kostka has been fine.

He, however, has no place on the first PP unit ahead of Liles, Gardiner or Franson.

Kostka has some hands and I think he has been a bit nervous to be on the top pairing. However, I haven't found him to be a liability and I think he has been performing nicely. Leave him alone for a few games, people.

Well this is the Leafs board. Where if you don't do anything for us lately then we hate you.

As for Kostka. Well with Gardiner being sent down for his conditioning stint, I wouldn't mind leaving him on the first pairing but replace him with Liles or Franson.

He's too damn slow with the puck. His reactions are a solid one second slower than the average NHL'er. He's been good 5 on 5, but on the PP his slow reactions really hurt us.

Once Gards gets back to form, I'd like to see him on the first PP pairing with Dion (or, preferably Franson, because Dion certainly isn't great on the PP).

Kostka has actually been pretty good overall though. He's just being massively overplayed.

This. People need to give guys a chance. He played well in the first two games. Let's judge him after a few weeks. He wasn't terrible on the PP, some of us want to pin it all on one guy, and its usually the guy with the least hype. Kostka has done fine, and I anticipate him continuing to play well, with some off nights, over the course of the season.

He's not a first pairing D at all , but I like him and think he should be on our bottom pairing once Gardiner comes back up . And no PP .

I'm not sure he should be demoted to bottom pairing. Defensively he seems to have played well with Phaneuf. I'm willing to throw out last night's $***show until we see whether that was just a really bad game by everyone. I'm sure RC has had input from DP as to how he feels playing huge minutes with Kostka as his partner as well.

This is a funny board. You can actually get labelled a "hater" here for complimenting a Leafs player who has played better than (insert player name) without even saying the alleged victim of hate has played bad.

Not sure what you're trying to say, but I never labelled anyone a "hater". But every player on this team has been disparaged here at one point or another.

Comment wasn't directed at you and my apologies if you got that impression. I just quoted the first post with hater in it and that was a quote contained in yours. The classic example here was Schenn. If you said anything disparaging at all about him you were a "hater". Now I see some of his staunchest defenders ripping his play in Philly so far this year for the very same reasons. Lots of people are absolutely irrational with their hatred for certain players on here but that doesn't mean that if someone points out that a certain player has been sub standard for awhile they should be viewed in the same way as those posters.

I feel like I haven't kept up to date at all, who is Kostka? Why haven't I really heard of him until now?

Fair enough.
Thanks for clarifying.
