Man, after beating Pitt on Wednesday I was sure we were Cup contenders, but now after losing to the Isles, I guess we're going to finish bottom 5. Heck, we might not win another game this season.
Maybe I shouldn't let any single game affect my expectations quite so much?
Typically Toronto media. Leafs lose a tough game, and all of a sudden they're dysfunctional. Damien Cox is the scum of the earth. This is the same guy that accused Bautista of being on steroids after his first home run title. He's an absolute joke writer that feeds off of small controversy and has a knee jerk reaction over everything. He's the worst human being alive.
cox is a complete idiot of a guy. he's just brutal. every time i read one of his articles, i feel brain cells dying. i don't know why i do it to myself.
as obnoxious as he is in the star, he's even more insufferable on twitter. i finally blocked him so i wouldn't have to see his nonsense when other people retweeted it.
Yeah Cox is effing terrible. The worst part is most of the readers just take his word as gospel. I hate how he stirs the pot and causes anarchy while the real people that watches the games just facepalm

Blocking him here would be a tremendous option. call it the Cox blocker or something.
Read this article in the Star this morning and knew it would be posted here.
Cox had a good run of solid articles for a while there. Safe to say, he's back to his old ways.
We sucked yesterday for the first time in this young season. Dion Phaneuf sucked yesterday for the first time this young season. It was ONE bad game which followed two very solid ones. Maybe this is a trend to come, maybe not, either way it seems incredibly silly to write such an article.
Why not write it two days ago following a stellar game by the team and the Leafs captain? Oh right, because at that time, nearly every single argument written in this article was being proved wrong.
1. Just because you have a brother on the opposition doesn't safeguard you from the opposition players... that code is BS and doesn't exists
2. Cowen went after Dion, not the other way around
3. This Hartnell we're talking about....friggin Hartnell, the guy who actually went after Dion and has had constant verbal and physical altercation with Dion before.
4. That one is beyond friggin ridiculous.

So you like him when he's positive but dislike him when he has something negative to say after a stinker? Do you really expect him to write this type of article after a Leaf win where relatively every thing went well??
this is all bs..just get an NHL material goalie and all this negative talk will go away
Leafs definitely need some other goalie. Scrivens and/or Reimer are not NHL number 1 material. These are not good goalies. I wouldn't hire them for my second goaltenders ether. There are so many better ones.
It's shameful that the Leafs might miss the playoffs because of this stubborn thing. Not getting a goalie via trade or something. GM's should really be moving on this.
Phaneuf played hard yeah. Some of the leafs players play for themselves, not for the (team). So it'll show up in these type of situations. These type of situations are very common in show business.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. These are just a few examples of Dion's questionable character - there are many others: Including not honoring former Captain Mats Sundin. Of not accepting any responsibility for last seasons collapse - while others fell on their own swords. It goes on and on.
But just so I'm clear here are some things that are ok for the Captain of a team to do.
1. Pick a fight with your teammates 18 year old little brother - check
2. Shy away from fighting 99% of guys that call you out - but Fight Rookies - in their first professional Hockey games - Check
3. If you are going to fight someone thats not a rookie - make sure you do it after they score a goal that you're responsible for allowing - and do it mid celebration: check
4. On the PP - or anytime for that matter - AIM HIGH - if your own players get hit in the head - so be it. If another player on a different team looses an eye and ends their career so be it. Chances are 90% of the times its just going to go wide and end up 200 feet down the ice. Check
Glad we're on the same page for future consideration

Would you like me to list off the problems to such conclusions?
1. I never did write or imply that previous articles I've agreed with were all positive; they weren't.
2. I never did say I was a fan of his writing, period; in fact, the second line of my post makes it very clear that I have not historically appreciated his work.
3. I never said or implied that I had a problem with the article being negative; Rather, I took issue with the specific content which was filled with baseless assumptions, premature speculation, and all-around sensationalism.
Maybe you think it is good journalism to question if a team has a problem gelling after a mere 4 games (2-2), maybe you think Phaneuf's likeability should be questioned using a single play as an example, maybe you think that one play should prompt an article talking about how the team looks the same as last season, I don't. I find it ridiculous. If the team is playing like it did last night for an extended period of time and a month into the season, fine. 4 games? Are you kidding me?
Did Stellick also trade Vaive/Thomas/Root for Eddie O & Al Secord? #worsttrade
The Eddie O trade was made on Sept 1987 when the GM was Gerry McNamara. Stellick was made GM on April 1988. Btw, the third Leaf going to Chicaco with Vaive and Thomas was Bob McGill.
Seems like many of us still don't get the role sports media plays in society and the business of it all. They're not there to tell you truth anymore, they're not there to give you legit insider information, they're not there to be a voice for the general public.
The role sports media plays is to stir up controversy, to sell papers, to fill time slots on radio with topics to talk about etc.. all in the name of the mighty dollar.
Media generate stories, fairy tales these days in order to generate revenue that's why players are robots during interviews, that's why coaches hate them some more than others but they ALL would rather not talk to them.
The last place anybody should listen to about the game of hockey in what is right or wrong, fact or fiction is the media. We talk so much about how we are sheep for the Leafs in supporting the team I'll say this much rather you agree with or disagree with the drivel that is sports media these days I would rather be a sheep fan for the Leafs rather than a fish for the hook bait tactics of the media.
Well done Mr. Cox your live well is full of fish. Some Leaf fans now believe that Phaneuf is hated in the locker room and that this team doesn't support each other...

They basically read HFBoards and spin idiotic posts into long winded articles.
Ummm, just watched the video again, JVR, Kulemin and Kostka all had guys, Grabo was watching while Carkner and Dion were already on the ground. What did Cox want them to do exactly?
I agree with you, I don't know if there is a problem with Phaneuf in the room. I don't think he is captain material though, expecially in this city, I wish Clark was 22 or Ray Lewis could skate cuz he sure as hell can play d.
Let's play a game....
This team is so soft ________
.....Play-Dough has added Maple Leaf blue to their colour line.
.....Kessel has a sponsorship deal with cottonelle
.....Viagra is researching a cure
.....komiserk gets run twice, boarding on one and charging the other both by Kunitz. Both times no buddy did nothing
.....Kessel gets man handled and no one stands up for him
