How good is GameCenter?

So I'm thinking of subscribing to NHL GameCenter, but I have many questions. The other week I tried the NHL Vault, and the quality was so terrible, plus major freezing, that I got my money back instead.

So, is GameCenter good or not?

- What quality are the games? Is it like high TV quality, or really low quality like on streams?

- Do you need a good connection? Will there be freezing? I'd say my connection is a below average cable connection, like 4mbps during high-traffic hours, or up to 10mbps at other times.

- Will I be able to watch all games that are not on cable TV in my area (Edmonton)? What are the rules for this, because I heard it's really crappy?

Thanks.

its great for watching other teams games but you won't be able to watch any local games if they are on a local network or NBC - which in boston is every game. so get it for watching out of market games basically

Well I'm in Edmonton and I love watching the Canucks and basically all other Canadian teams, or even some American teams.

So will that be good for me? And what about the quality and etc?

The quality in my eyes is fantastic. Even better yet is the price for $50, I'm loving it.

Blackouts are determined by your IP address so if you have a way to change it (VPN). You can get around any black outs.

My only complaint is that the feeds are about 30-40 seconds behind the TV feeds.

I live in another country for work and use it for all habs games. It's great, the quality is as good as your connection as it uses adaptive bitrate similar to netflix. Apple TV also has it integrated. You can also force a specific bitrate but I prefer to let the adaptive bitrate do its job. At max quality, it does look HD to me on my 720P 50 inches.

For blackouts, hotspotshield is your friend. You just click a button on top-right corner of browser and boom! blackout gone.

Is there any way to beat the blackouts on Xbox? Not a huge issue but it'd be nice to just fire up the 360 and watch the Habs games instead of connecting my laptop to the TV.

I have to ask about blackouts. I get blacked out when it's on NBCSN or NBC, but last night I was able to watch the Coyotes/Sharks on my XBOX through Gamecenter, even though I live in Phoenix? Is this a normal thing, should I still be able to watch my home team even though I'm in their television market? It started on the Sharks feed and I just left it there. Didn't try to test the Coyotes feed.

In my experience, it's been superb, both last season and this, despite hiccups (major ones especially on the first couple of game days).

It's typically super-high HD quality, razor-sharp on my 46-inch TV screen, better than what my regular cable TV typically delivers.

Not necessarily. The service should be able to adjust to your bandwidth automatically.

Possibly, and if yes, the issue is likely to be on their end, not yours, so you'll just need to accept that and hope for an improvement.

The rules are confusing, but as you may have read earlier in this thread, you can get around the blackouts on traditional computers including laptops. Not (easily) possible on iPad, Apple TV, etc., as far as I'm aware.

What's the difference to Stealthy plugin? Stealthy behaves in exactly the same way. In what way is Stealthy better or worse than Hotspotshield?

Thanks guys, I ordered it. It seems to be good.

I sorta wish you could make invisible the player thing at the bottom when it's on full screen, but oh well, it isn't that noticeable.

Once you have Gamecenter loaded up following that tutorial, you can turn off unblock us.

You will need to pay for unblock us once the week trial goes away.

I've been using this all week and its worked perfectly.. even works with Netflix, got access to the American Netflix and its awesome .

I don't understand.... I just tried stealthy plugin and hotspotshield.... is all they do is slow down your connection considerably. It might be alright if you're on FIOS or something, otherwise NO.

Also it switched me to a horrible quality.

At one point I was on a proxy in Saudi Arabia, lol, and it didn't look like it was letting me view any games. :-P

So I really don't see how there's an ideal way around the blackouts.

*confused*

You must deactivate Stealthy as soon as your game is launched. Then you'll be fine, using your original bandwidth.

God, I wish people would at least casually browse this thread before posting what has been repeated and explained at least 20 times already on previous pages...

trying to watch last nights wild/wings game but the bloody thing keeps buffering on xbox every minute, taking me back about 20 secs before stopping and buffering again on exactly the same spot again. VERY frustrating.
