Helps that the Blues will be on the tail end of a back to back.

You'll get St. Louis on back-to-back nights at least. Elliott will be in goal. I was just curious b/c I'm going to be at the Westin to watch the Stan Musial funeral before going to the funeral procession route nearby and many of the NHL teams stay at the Westin in StL. I'm not a stalker tho lol

So cullen started to get defensive when Russo called him out, eh?

Whatever.

Brodin played 19 minutes? Wow. He was pretty good.

Russo also said Kassian will possibly get brought in against St Louis. I can really only see Yeo scratching one of Setoguchi or Cullen to bring Kass in, as Powe, Mitchell, Konopka, and Clutter all bring some grit we'll need against St. Louis.

I still think this would be the optimal lineup:

Parise - Koivu - Heatley
PMB - MiG - Seto
Clutter - Brodz - Mitchell
Kassian - Konopka - Powe

Sorry, Cullen.

Oh, and is anyone else thinking that Fletch is keeping Dumba up to play against Columbus? Pretty good team to let him test the waters.

Some interesting pieces in there.

Quote:
--Speaking of too cute, the game unraveled with the game tied at 2. With the Wild on a power play, Devin Setoguchi lost the puck on a breakaway. The Wild got the puck back, worked it down low to Matt Cullen and Cullen tried an attempted behind the back pass across the goalmouth for Setoguchi that Brendan Smith picked off.

I asked Cullen about the play. He did take exception to me describing it as too fancy, saying, ďItís a set play on the power play. The D made a good read and backed off and caught the puck. I mean, itís goalmouth. I donít think that thatís overly fancy.Ē
Gee, I thought Koivu was the only one who did stuff like that.

Quote:
Still, I think with both Suter and Shea Weber, who has no points for Nashville, weíre seeing that life without each other is a tougher transition than many of us would have guessed. Itís not easy when you grow such a comfort playing half the game with the same partner every year. Then add the fact that Suter is on a new team with a new system with new partners, I think this could take a bit of time before he feels comfortable. Still, this is a great player and I think heíll be alright.
Hmmmmm....

Powe will likely be the scratch IMO.

No way will Yeo scratch one of his "2nd liners". I just can't see him doing that.

Well, I'm watching the DVR of the game now.

I'll write my opinion down in a while.

I hope he doesn't get scratched. Powe drew a penalty with pure hustle that could have made it a one goal game if we converted

Brodin got his first point, Ryan Suter is learning independence, Detroit's empty red seat industry needs all the help it can get...

MORAL VICTORY! 4-0 on the road 48-0 baby!

If you haven't seen the Blues yet this year you are going to be in for a treat. They are a true Stanley cup favorite imo. They are so deep and skilled with offense coming from all three lines any of which could be our teams first line. We are in for an ass kicking on Sunday. Hopefully our second line as it stands now is able to survive to the end of the game. Granlund is going to get killed again. Poor kid just doesn't have what it takes to be high end at even strength. Hes a powerplay specialist plain and simple. I would say putting him at the wing on the first line in slower than molasses Dany Heatley's spot could really help his even strength play.

Speaking of Heatley, my god the guy can't even get to the boards fast enough to catch a cycle coming. Why is he so ****ing slow. What happened to him the past 4 years that completely drained him of anything remotely resembling speed. I know he wasn't always a speedy player but god damn how else do you score so many goals.

Koivu- I am sick of his sit back and wait style of play. You need to get aggressive and go to the ****ing net. Use your big body for something. On the powerplay all he does is sit on the wall and pass down to Parise who actually makes something happen. Get off the ****ing halfwall and curl around the tops of the circles either shooting or dropping it down low where Parise can set up a one timer. Sitting still and passing back and forth on the PP doesn't work. I know you play defensive first hockey, but could you please remind me why your our 1st line center besides the fact that we have no one else. Just score please

Brodin- I was impressed. He is good.

Cullen - Don't even get me started on this turnover machine. Why can't he just take a look and pass the puck to a teammate once he get the puck. All he does is try to make some nifty play he doesn't have the hands to complete and loses the puck almost immediately after coming into possession of the damn thing. You sir are no good. He is killing anything close to offense that the 2nd line is creating, not that they are creating a damn thing though.

Suter-hes fine relax people

I thought this was interesting and I bet this is what Russo's Brunner story will be about tomorrow. Good site for hockey news, rumors, etc.

Heater is a sloth which is why I don't like him on the top line, but he is a garbage goal machine on the PP. That's where he gets his goals. Koivu is overpassing and not doing anything offensively. The most annoying part about tonight was how many shots Detroit blocked. They blocked so many scoring chances. Also this is a skating man's game and they skated circles around us. We were totally gassed tonight, it was blatantly obvious in the defensive zone in the 2nd and 3rd.

The Death Period reared its ugly head tonight, god help us.

You know, if we are gonna keep playing like this, I'm gonna start looking in Yeo's direction more and more. He has way more skill on the roster than last year, but the team is still incapable of scoring 5-on-5. Seems to be a system-wide problem, up and down the lineup, no matter the personnel.

And the way the Wild came out for the second period? That's 100% on the coaching staff. The team wasn't focused and wasn't prepared to play.

Another example. In the first period, we KILLED them on faceoffs. And then what happened? They adjusted and we didn't, that's what happened. And that's, again, something you can put on the coaching staff.

So those who want to roll their eyes at the notion that Yeo was outcoached, I wouldn't be so quick to do that.
