Little or no progress made in PK Subban contract negotiations. Habs firm on 2 year deal, roughly $5 mil total. Offer sheet? Trade? Options.

Holy crap that is ****** deal for Subban. I don't know what a fair deal for him would be, but two years $5 million is pretty weak.

If the Habs really offered him no more than 2 years 5M total, an OS has to happen within the next couple of days. This could be a golden opportunity.
Sign him to a 3 year, 5.5M per OS and see what happens. What can you lose?
They match it and you did them a favour in getting him signed for what should be close to fair market value or they don't match and you pick up a potential #1D for nothing except you need to find a way to fit him under the cap.

That would be :
4 1sts in compensation

At that point just do a 7 year deal for 6.5m

Really? 2.5m/year?

If I were Subban I would be insulted too. What a joke.

Just for sake of discussion, do you think Subban is really worth 6.5 mil a year? Like most on twitter (obviously its just twitter) think he is more of a 5 mil per year player atm. You would essentially be paying Subban the extra 1.5 for potential correct (or just win win him over)? Don't get me wrong, I think Subban is a good player, but is he, right now, a franchise #1 defender? He better be, when the team who pays him 4 first round pick destroys their farm system. I think also you got to take into consideration the team will be needing to resign Giroux in 2 seasons, and he will command 7 mil or so.

For me he is in the 4.5 to 5 range No more. But we cannot afford to ship out our youth to make this move. I bite the bullit and see what the next four weeks brings us. If this team plays the way it did last Thursday we should be allright.

I have no qualms offering him 6m a season.

He's a much better player than Carle in terms of puck movement and defense.

He played about 24 mins a game last season and he's only getting better.

IMO, I would do whatever it takes to get him.

The Flyers are getting a golden second chance here after the whole Weber situation. They clearly need a #1 guy. There aren't going to be any available next year. The defensemen FA class is extremely weak. They also don't have any bluechip D prospects.

This guy would give such a huge boost to this team.

Too bad they will match a 6m deal.

Just because they don't want to pay him that doesn't mean they won't match it.

Yeah, that is pretty weak. The perils of being an RFA, I suppose.

I hope Subban gets offered 7 years @ 7m per by someone just to leave the habs with that contract.

Habs fans and the team always say Subban is a big part of their team. Yet the front office is showing they aren't willing to give him a big deal right now. Their GM not a fan of long term deals? Know who that sounds like? Burke. Look where that got him and the leafs.

And as Bergevin stands at the podium announcing that he has matched that 7m offersheet, I hope he ironically stammers that he will not be bullied by other organizations trying to take advantage of the situation.

2.5/year for PK? That is insulting way to make one of your cornerstone players feel wanted I hope someone throws a crazy contract at him and the Habs get goosed into paying a ton, I used to not like the kid but that went out the window when Richie was traded, he has a lot of upside, don't see the Flyers reaching out to him

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I want us to pursue him.

I would offer big term/money and would trade anyone but Giroux and Couturier to get him. Obviously it would not trade the farm by offering a cavalcade of young guns and picks, but see if a deal can be made if this holdout lasts longer.

In hindsight, pursing PK makes the JvR/Schenn deal look even more questionable... but having Schenn and PK going forward as 2 of our defensive stalwarts isn't so bad.

The trade board Subban thread is just brutal. To the point where Giroux for Subban is what it would take for MTL to trade Subban...

Again, there is 0 problem if they match. Inflating another team's payroll advances our interests even at the micro level. I'd offer PK the 5 year deal that maxes out the 2 1sts, 2nd, 3rd range and call it a day. There's really nothing to lose by putting that offer sheet out there, particularly with all the salary we can put on LTIR till we figure it out.

I share your disagreement. Trading Couts is pure stupidity and leaves us with a mediocre, at best, defensive forward. Just awful if this happens.
