I don't really see Shero going out and trying to get a superstar. I think that he knows what lies ahead in the future and that it would be incredibly difficult to manage cap if we landed a Perry type player.
Keep the trades simple and cheap. Get D'Agostini from STL for a late pick and try to acquire a guy like Mark Stuart from Winnipeg for a 2nd/Kennedy or something like that. D'Agostini is cheap as dirt and would be a good fit on the top 6, and Stuart and Orpik could turn into a shutdown pair for playoffs.
Stay at home guy who isnt completely inept at moving the puck
Pittsburg should really inquire about Ballard. Has been very solid and is in game shape already. Needs a shot in the Top 4. He may not be the best PP option unless you have a shooter, but can move the puck quite while with his speed and skating or make a good pass outta the zone. Isn't afraid to get dirty in the corners, can lay the hip like a madman and is willing to drop em when the moment calls for it.
I'd be willing to take on a prospect D who can step into a bottom pair.

A - am not a fan of him. B - we can't afford him. We have Martin, Orpik, Letang all making 3.5. We can't afford his 4.2m.

I think Pittsburgh could really use a power forward, someone who bangs in front of the net, lays down some his his and pots 25. I really would love someone like Ryan clowe. What would someone like that cost us and are there some other possibilities out there?
how about a combo of Cole or Gionta and Kaberle on D
must be a combo, and return must be well worthy since we would be dealing with propects who might not pan out
Depres, Bennet and Tangradi?
LOL ... utterly ridiculous. Kaberle is worth Tangradi and a fifth. Cole or Gionta ain't worth Despres and Bennett.
Pittsburgh shouldn't be interested in MacArthur at all. If you put Kulemin in, then fine. MacArthur isn't an answer in Pittsburgh. He isn't the difference maker we need. We need a defenseman now. Holzer can't get any run in Toronto, so what's the point of doing this?

So you want a difference maker for just picks...good luck with that.
He won't come cheap... I'm sure Nonis doesn't want to look like a dumb ass when Kule starts potting 30-40 consistently with Malkin
Shero didn't gain his reputation as a great trading GM by giving up multiple 1st rounders for scoring wingers coming off 7 goal seasons.
Toronto can keep Kulemin at anything close to that price. Other teams will have scoring wingers available who don't command an artificially inflated premium based on how much they scored with Malkin.

The thing you have failed to understand in multiple threads is that Kulemin can get 0 goals in a season and still be a very effective forward on both ends of the ice. The goals are bonus.

Malkin will help him score in bundles.
I have never misunderstood that. One can acquire strong, responsible wingers who score no goals with relative ease, which is why you never, ever see forwards who score 7 goals in a contract season come out earning 2.8 mil per.
You pay for production. It is not a bonus, it is a primary concern.
