No progress in talks for PK Subban contract. Offer from MTL is still the same since May: 2,3 million dollars this season and 2,9 in 2013-14.
I'm not surprised he's sitting out...honestly, I think that offer is a total insult to the guy. this isn't going to end well.
James Mirtle @mirtle
Some team could offer sheet Subban up to $5.04-million AAV and only give up two picks: 1st and 3rd. If it's a late first, why not?
^^this is a good point. someone (like us!) should just do that...although it would kill us for this draft b/c we wouldn't be picking in the first 3 rounds. but

I would absolutely be in favor of doing this... And we could easily squeeze him in at that cap hit without having to lose a core player. Might lose a little depth, but it'd be worth it.

You do that in a heartbeat if it doesn't cause cap issues down the road with re-signing some of the current roster. You probably aren't going to end up with someone of Subban's caliber in the draft and this team already has a glut of prospects that the GM doesn't seem intent on moving.
I like DHF and a few other's thought of giving Subban an OS, but how much truth is there to the Bowman trade negotiations thing in which he supposedly only has a few general managers he trades with? Those guys are Tallon, Murray, Chevy, and a couple others. I think that it's just coincidence and that the Hawks can make a trade with 75 percent of the league if the right situation arose, so I say we give Subban an OS. Hope Bergy doesn't get pissed. However, you know what? It's a business.
I was under the impression that to OS you need the picks for the upcoming draft. That's why a lot of people were mad Stan traded our 2013 2nd/3rd rounds picks last year for Oduya. They wanted to offersheet Schiender with them over the summer.
They'd rather pay Subban than lose him for fifty cents on the dollar.
There's no way to tell Bergy's rationale.
$5.04 million as an AAV is almost double what they have been reportedly offering him. The length of the contract Bowman offers could also be more than what Bergy wants to go.
Truthfully I'm surprised no one's tried an offer sheet already.
I would assume the only reason it hasn't would be because PK hasn't signed an offer sheet, not because he hasn't been offered one.
Someone should try to sell PK on an offer sheet working out the same way the Weber one did. It doesn't necessarily mean you're leaving town. It can just mean you're getting what you're worth.
