Bergevin must have seen him play once a year since Montreal still doesn't have him in their lineup.
Bergevin wants to sign him to 2 year deal so that when they negociate again he'll be 25 years old and a RFA. If he signs him now to a 5 year deal Subban will be 28 when the deal is over and might walk away from the team, say what you want Bergevin is handling this very well.

Subban is a cheap shot artist who turtles when someone bigger than him wants to fight him. I've seen him play plenty of times.
Subban's not a fighter, not his fault the other players can't take a hit. He still fought Blake Wheeler, not much of a fighter but he's still 6foot 5. What do you expect? Him to fight Lucic?
i'm not sure why we would tie up more money in the defense, especially someone as redundant on this team as Subban would be. I mean, i like him as a player, he's very good, but at that cost you can just continue to develop Leddy for a fraction of the cost. It just doesn't make sense from a resources standpoint to give up the picks AND 5+ mil a year? Especially when you have both Leddy AND Clendening.

Agree and if you try to trade for him, it would probably cost your best prospect : Teravainen.
Moving a top 4 dman + 2 of our best prospects is not price the Hawks should be looking to pay especially when we already have Keith/Seabs as #1-2 longterm and with Leddy developing offensively (Subban and him have comparable offensive talent)
The difference between Oduya's contract and Subban's should be less than $2M.
If the Hawks were able to acquire Subban, he would be a great fit with Hammer, but I wouldn't want Oduya paired with Leddy - no physicality. I'd rather keep Roszival with Leddy on the 3rd pairing - making Oduya expendable.

One would think that in order to get one of the best 23 year old defensemen in the NHL you would have to give your best prospect. I'm not so sure on Mark Mcneill offensive upside it would take someone like TT.

I can't see the Habs going for that deal as they consider Subban to be a #1 D or a superstar.
They would most likely want Saad added to Oduya plus a 1st or something crazy like that.
If we were to go after an unsigned player I'd rather they pursue O'Reilly as he would fit in nicely at 3LC or 2nd.
If this team trades for anything, I want it to be for someone that's a bona fide #2 netminder that's capable of challenging Crawford for the #1 spot at some juncture...or a top flight #2 center. That's it.
I think it would be a waste of draft picks and there's no reason we need to add another expensive defenseman. Those draft picks and cap space could be used elsewhere to get an improvement that we are in more need of.
Any scenario where Subban comes to Chicago would involve Leddy/Hjalmarsson being moved. Simply not enough cap space to justify having a glut of high end dmen.
Again, the Hawks do not have enough LONG TERM cap space to add anymore star players without trading away someone in our top 6 or top 4

Thats funny, he has no problem fighting midgets like Brad Marchand.

A players attitude is only as good as the team he's surrounded by. Coach Q and the boys would likely keep him in check while playing in Chicago. I think a lot of players understand how respectful of an organization Chicago is. Look at Carcillo. He was a goon who made my blood boil during the Cup in '10. Came here and seems to fit in and be proud to wear the indian head. Though his situation is a bit different as he was pigeonholed into being a goon instead of a solid forward which was the reason he's a high draft pick in the first place.
I'd prefer Shea Weber as a D addition if the Hawks were to spend money on a high priced D man.
