Weber is about equivalent to Fistric in terms of playing ability. Fistric just fetched a 3rd. Maybe Driedger straight up would be better, but a late round pick would not be enough IMO.
Not sure why the Canes would be interested in Weber honestly. What they lack is the physical "defensive" style defenseman. They already have too many "offensive" defensemen with with McBain, Pitkanen, Faulk, Corvo and Sanguinetti so I don't see how Weber really fits.
because Kirk Muller is familiar with him. he coached the defensemen in MTL.

Zach Boychuk, Derrick Brassard, Ben Bishop? As a Habs fan I think Yannick Weber is a good, young offensive defenceman that just need a change of scenary, but I would be surprise if we get a quality return like this. I would guess a mid-round pick, which undervalue him, but if he's not playing he's hard to showcase. Moreover, I don't think the Canadiens are in a position of strength to deal him.
I really don't think Montreal will get much of a return for him, nor would I be willing to give much up to acquire him. I think a lot of habs fans will be disappointed if he is moved.

we have St-Denis, Beaulieu, Tinordi and Ellis in Hamilton. Weber who?
Disappointed in the return, genius. That's what I was talking about in my post. I don't think any team would be shedding tears over losing Weber.
isn't that what i was answering to? i don't see Habs fans getting their hopes up for someone like Weber. while he could be serviceable to teams lacking defensive depth - i don't see anyone thinking they'll get more than a 2nd or 3rd for him. or another player in need of a change in scenery.

Sounded more like you were saying no one would mind losing him because you were listing off your other defensive prospects.
No need to rush Weber out yet. Even if Subban resigns we can keep him even if he's not playing. Lets keep playing Kaberle until there's a taker. Don't worry, in two more weeks injuries will pile up and someone is gonna take Kaberle. Leave the kids in Hamilton playing a lot. Weber is a nice insurance in case one of Markov, Diaz, Subban or Emelin go down. Weber's only young and has played well for stretches. He has an absolute bomb for a shot. His value will be the highest at the deadline with teams looking for powerplay help. If Markov is gonna stay healthy he should not be playing 48 games in a compressed schedule and Weber can sub for him. Anything less than a third would be a waste. Come the deadline he'll fetch a second if he's not needed. (Patience)

It still doesn't make sense to me unless there is something else in play on Carolina's side. If Faulk's injury is more serious than the "day to day" that is reported or they plan on trading one of the defensemen they already have, then I could see it, but other than that, this move doesn't make sense.

i'm not gonna pretend to be familiar with Carolina's defensemen and their depth. maybe there is no real interest coming from Carolina's camp - but if there is, as i said, it's because Kirk Muller knows the kid and what he has to offer.
I would hate it if Carolina traded for him. I'm not talking about Weber as a player, just saying it makes no sense at all when we need a defensive d-man. Having said that, I wouldn't put it past JR to make this move...
As for the case of Yannick Weber, he's a 5"11, he plays the point, isn't a liability defensivly. But last season he was playing behind Subban, Markov, Diaz, Kaberle, who brings more than him to the table and play the same kind of game. I'd say Yannick still has a lot of potential, he works very hard and is a classy guy. He's already an NHLer.
Right now i think he deserves a spot on the team ahead of Kaberle, but with Subban's return Kaberle should sit, so that spot will be closed again.
I'd keep Yannick Weber ahead of Kaberle as a 7th defencemen. That's if Kaberle is tradable.
And i'm pretty sure we'll not get equivalent return for Weber, so i'm against trading him now.
