Fan etiquette

Question for y'all.

How would you deal with someone who's constantly leaning over and standing up for the majority of the game?

I don't want to be a jerk, but it really obstructs my line of sight and I can barely see the game when the puck is in our end of the rink. I didn't mind it at first, but it kinda gets old after a season and a bit.

What say you? Am I a crotchety soul trapped in a 24 year old's body? or should I tell this guy to sit back in his chair?

Just politely inform him. Don't be a wimp about it. If he gives you flack talk to the usher. Don't escalate it more than that.

The usher in 304 is fantastic. She takes care of business before it escalates. Lots of drunks in our section usually. Shes probably 60 and has no problem getting right into peoples faces.

Politely ask them to sit back and let them know that it is interfering with your line of sight. If they don't change it, just quietly let your usher know.

You're paying good money to watch the game, so you should be able to see it. Maybe ask an usher to keep an eye on the guy and to just ask him to not obstruct the view of others. The only reason I'm saying to ask an usher to do it is that some people won't be reasonable if some Joe Schmoe is asking them to do something, whereas they might listen to the "authority figure".

I had the same issue and I just tapped the guy on the shoulder and asked politely. I explained that if he leans, then I also have to causing the whole section to have issues seeing. I don't think he was too happy with me, but at least my line of sight improved

That's more or less what happens in my section (301). Most of the row below me is leaning forward, so it's pretty hard for me to sit back against my seat and have an obstructed view.

But yeah, I'd just tap him on the shoulder and ask politely.

That's some darn good advice, fellas. The only reason why I don't want to lean as well is because I'm over 6'4" and the person who sits behind me is actually quite small... so I usually try to slouch a bit so she can see better.

I'll ask him politely the next time I see him; thankfully he's only at about 1/2 of the games.

We need more fans like you. Nice to know you are thinking of the person behind you.

You're that 6'4" jerk in front of me? Wow, now I know... thanks dude.

J/K.

Actually I seem to remember a very similar post from last year... I think it might have been you because I remember the 6'4" part!

Here's my situation: I have two guys in front of me that I call the 'duds'. They never cheer, they never stand up (unless they have to fart), and they always give backward glances at anyone who cheers too loud.

Now if you ask me, they should sell their tickets and watch the game at home while knitting a nice doily.

But they ALWAYS lean on the rail in front of their seats. One time last year I asked them politely to stop leaning right on the sticker that says, "Please don't lean on this sticker".

I got a reply that amounted to: "what do you want me to do, I can't see?"

So now we're at this point where I'm not going to ask anymore, I simply lean over, so the people behind me are forced to aswell.

However, I will say I stand a lot... I cheer a lot, and never belligerent but I think if this is what prevents you from having a good time, I'd seriously reconsider if going to live games is what you really want.

Please don't take that the wrong way. I never EVER want the arena to be like Jets 1.0 with just about EVERY jersey out there except the Jets, and people cheering and standing for everyone except a jet. I want that phone booth packed, loud and proud as long as I have a breath in my lungs. The rest of you? Please put your favorite tea pot on the stove, grab your knitting needles, and turn up the AM radio!

I dunno, bro. I usually cheer so hard I can barely talk after the game... I wish our entire fan base was that way.

However, I think there's a line between being a great fan and being obnoxious. These guys stand up and start chirping to other fans during the middle of an offensive rush. Or they'll lean so far over that it takes away anything below the blue-line from any possible line of vision from me.

It's frustrating because as others have said I pay good money for these season tickets on top of my tuition and other expenses so I'd like to be able to watch the game.

Those guys that are leaning in front of you, are you located in a section that has
the handicap section? People on chairs in those section lean forward and block
the view of the net causing the rows behind them to lean as well.

well if they are actually obnoxious, which is well beyond what I experience in my section, then you can do what the guys in front of me always do..... text the number they show on the screen and report them. If you don't want to confront them personally, do the text thing.

The guys in front of me tell on everyone. They spend half the game texting the security services telling on everyone. They always send security up, and of course nothing is actually happening that warrants a warning, and they go until the next period.... But in your section if it's beyond reasonable, try the text thing. Personally I have politely talked the people in front of me.

I dunno, as a grown man I just can't get myself to do it, don't get into it enough. Couldn't even get myself to yell "True North". And as someone with a kid, I don't want my kid to turn into me either lol.

I hope you are not complaining about the final minute of last nights game after the empty net goal... when the whole building remained standing until the end of the game. Also no one left
early once the game had been iced... everyone wanted to stay and see out the win.

If you're complaining about that, you're either a. Penguins fan or b. a dingbat.

I'm one of those row 1 on the isle guys in 305. Sometimes to be honest you realy have to think about those behind you because to be honest you get caught up in the moments of the game.
My buddy is a freaking stork. He's well over 6'5 tall and skinny. He well...gets realy caught up and cheers and i constantly have to remind him about those behind us.
Those in Row 1 in the upper decks are somwhat of the Anchors of the section. If we stand up to cheer pretty much everyone behind us has no choice but to do the same.
We or anyone else in our ST package would never have a problem with someone respectively asking us to sit down. However be respectible and remember that this isnt a Movie theater and sometimes ya gotta get up and roar!
Also the ushers are there for a reason, it avoids direct confrantation between the fans, simply talk to an usher and they will talk to those who are causing the issue.

Any of you guys who are sitting in 305 and are having issues with the front row guys PM me and I will have a talk with the group..

I'm right on the railing in the 329 section. I try to remember the people behind me but when the action is right against the boards behind the net, I tend to lean forward. So far nobody has complained, but I do look a bit like a felon sometimes, so maybe nobody wants to. If you're in 329, I'm the scruffy guy with the Jack Skellington leather jacket. I'm a nice guy, honest!

I'm in 320 row 2 and everyone in row 1 leans forward, I find myself doing to bob and weave to see the play through all their heads on the near boards. I am forced to lean forward as well, as are all the folks behind me
