Really hope we don't trade Couts for Subban. If we are going to trade him I would have rather included him in a package for Weber last summer. This would suck if it happens
Don't really want to trade Couturier for Subban. I'd rather just ride out the season and see what happens.
And the Habs wouldn't.
I am on the ride out the season as well. I wouldn't mind trading picks for a roster player for the 3rd pairing or bottom six forwards if we have to. As long as we keep our first and second round picks.
I am really torn on Subban. I would love to have him, and it might cost Couts. Its a tough pill to swallow, but it has to be one that is thought about. PK is an excellent young #1 potential defender, which is tougher to find than a #1 center. We have our #1 also with Giroux, and have another lined up with Schenn. There are some tough decisions that need to be made. Also with the injuries this team is suffering from, should we worry about getting that defender right now? We might find him in this years draft.

The value might be right.
But there are some names before Subban I'd inquire about for Couturier.
You think Pheonix isn't going to think long and hard about getting Couts for OEL or Yandle?

There is one defenseman I love, Pietrangelo in St Louis that I would move him for no doubt. OEL is another, Yandle though I would try to make a deal around another young forward like Voracek or Read. I remember before the lockout, St Louis fans were worried because they believed if the Flyers come their way with an offer sheet like Webers, they won't be able to match for Piety. I would seriously make him the most paid player in the league if it meant getting him.
Disclaimer: I know Piety is not available and it's a pipe dream.
You also know the value is right in a trade when both fan bases hate the deal. Usually indicator it's right on the button.
Seems like St Louis spends right around 50 million a year on their team. They did last year and are this year. Maybe hitting them hard with a big offer sheet could spell trouble for them. They have a ton of RFA's to resign to.
I'm ok with trading Couturier if it means getting a real or at least a potential blue chip #1 D-man. That said if Couturier is going to be thrown around in offers I hope its not just Montreal. We need to see what else is out there as well.

No way Phoenix trades OEL for Couturier.
As for Yandle, he is soft as butter and Couturier would be an overpayment.
I just want to be on record as saying that after these 4 games this year ( i know its only 4 games) that i have severely changed my view on Couturier's offensive potential.
I really dont see him being able to score much more than 50 pts a year. He has a difficult time getting his shot off , and he gets pushed around so easily. WHile he has improved his skating this year he still looks very slow.
I'd be tempted to sell high at this point for a guy like subban.

I think 50 was always a pretty realistic projection for his offensive output, honestly. Could he exceed that? Sure. But its not like 60 point scorers are common, particularly not in 2nd line roles.
That said, I'm not sure I'd go that far quite yet. Given the situation, it seems at lest possible that we should be able to pry Subban out of MTL without giving up Couturier.

Giving up an un proven 2 way 2nd line center for a guy like subban... You do that everytime.
