Billionaire Ron Burkle has taken his interests in the Sacramento Kings all the way to the top.

An NBA spokesman confirmed Burkle talked for two hours with Commissioner David Stern at the league's New York offices Thursday. No further details of the meeting were given.

This is one thing I hope Burkle fails at.

The NBA is a much more of a joke than the WWE.

At least the WWE is entertaining.

I love college ball, but when they hit the NBA it goes bad.

They break all the rules and just play for themslves, not as a team.

Yep. Burkle's a great guy and we're lucky to have him as owner of the Pens, but this move might impede the NHL coming to Seattle. So I am being 100% selfish when I say that I hope this does not work out for him.

Why would this impede the NHL going to Seattle?

He wouldn't move the team to Pittsburgh would he?

Nope, he'd keep them in California. If an NBA team goes to Seattle (i.e. the Kings) they will break ground on the new NBA/NHL arena project. Then the NHL will allegedly follow (Phoenix, maybe).

I haven't found the WWE entertaining since the attitude era.

I agree that the NBA largely sucks though.

I'd rather Burkle focus on the Pens than get involved with the NBA but it's his life and his money.

I suppose that makes sense as most NBA arenas are NHL compatible.

WWE

I agree Captain Hook, Attitude Era was the best, but I think it was entertaining a few years after that. 2011-present is when it stopped becoming entertaining to me though, it's a children's show now.

But, he's rich, and as long as he can still provide stable ownership for the Penguins, then he can buy whatever he wants.

I thought somebody else already purchased the Sacramento Kings with the intent of moving them to Seattle. Is Burkle trying to put a wrench in that?

Seems like Seattle wants an NBA team first, then they'll take an NHL team if one is available. The Coyotes saga seems at a standstill, but if things fall apart Seattle would probably be where the league wants to go. I just get the sense the NHL wants to avoid Quebec City.

Bingo.

I'd also like to keep his sport holdings in Pittsburgh because I think he'd turn quickly to viewing a California team as his more precious asset.

Sacramento is trying to get a last minute plan to prevent the sale from going through...but I think it's too late to save the Kings. The NBA wants a team in Seattle and when the NBA wants something somewhere, it tends to happen. I feel bad for Kings fans...but without a privately built arena they're not a feasible franchise in the NBA and trying to get a guy to build an arena with their own money in a niche market like Sacramento isn't exactly appealing to anyone with deep enough pockets to make it happen. Throw in the fact that the Maloofs just don't care about the team and just want to recoup some of their massive losses over the past decade and you have an ownership that isn't going to be willing to sell for less to keep the team local.

It's just really hard to take a market seriously when their last two arena sponsers were a company that makes wristbands and a mattress store. Sleep Train Arena is just an embarrassing name...the Jobing.com Arena of the NBA.

The saddest thing about the Kings...in 2003, when ESPN did their first Ultimate Team Ratings list, the King were ranked 4th out of 121 - including rankings of 3rd for ownership and 4th for fan relations. Last year they ranked 121st out of 122 - including dead last for ownership and 120th for fan relations. The year before they were 121st in ownership - 'topped' only by the Atlanta Thrashers.

Burkle only keeps Botterill around to be the public face of number crunching. No one knows the true depth of his meddling with the team.

The Maloofs have been driving this (sleep) train into a gasoline truck for years. It's been an absolute embarrassment for Sacramento. It's funny/sad looking back now at how they used to be seen as those cool young owners everyone should have, now they basically have a rift with everyone in their way including Burkle. I'd love to see the Kings stay, but there is a lot that must happen while the NBA probably just wants to wash their hands of this whole mess and make everyone forget that once again they're moving a team out.

I.....can't tell if you're kidding.

But Burkle is renowned for being hands off and letting the people hired to do their jobs do their jobs. The idea that a guy with his background is in the trenches managing the day-to-day aspects of the salary cap of a sports team is kinda funny.

Seattle. Super. Sonics.

Anything less is unacceptable.

100%.

That's why Burkle is great. He's the anti-Daniel Snyder.

It's his money, I have a hard time caring what he does with it outside of the Penguins. I mean I would like to see Seattle get their team again, but not at the expense of fans losing their team in Sacramento to get it.

Not a fan of uprooting a team like that, Sonics should have never moved in the first place, same for the Grizzlies for that matter. The NBA is a joke and it starts at the top with their Commissioner, a guy that is probably the biggest clown in all of sports as far as commissioners go.

WWE hasn't been interesting since the mid 90's.

Really? WWE was awful in the mid 90's imo. That was probably one of their worst eras. WCW was kicking their ass in the ratings and it led to major changes including the attitude era of the late 90's - early 2000's which is one of their most successful eras.

Keep the talk on-topic boys. There's no need for the talk of homo-erotic soap operas.
