Are they frowned upon?

My rule: no beer before 10 AM. Starting the day with an Irish coffee is allowed though.

wow strange that this thread pops up , I have a beer in my hand and I was self-debating whether or not to open it (giving the fact I'm sure many will follow).

On Saturdays for home football games, we have a thing called breakfast club. Basically you dress up in a costume and hit the bars at 5 am. So, not really.

I had a slight cultural shock in Belgium a few years ago when I saw a lot of people drinking beer at 10:30AM on patios on a bright, Saturday morning. I should have joined, but I didn't. I guess there's some kind of a cultural hangup in North America about doing it in public.

Anyway, it's all relative to the time you get up.

Only time I can drink early is while tailgating for 1pm Giant games. In that case, crack some beers and a bottle open at 7am.

Besides that, nothing before noon for me.

Beer is an important part of our cultural heritage. I just finished reading a book about this region in the Middle Ages and it had a hilarious part about alcohol abuse. Apparantly all contracts that were closed after noon were nullified because most people started drinking during lunch and as we all know, drunk people do things they might regret once they're sober.

And even today, we're much more relaxed about it than our neighbours. Just today, the results of a survey about teenagers and drinking have been published . Seems like Belgians first drink alcohol when they're 12 years old and are totally wasted by the time they're 14.

If you want one or two, why not?

As long as you are not driving if you have more than one and you're on your lunch break(and aren't my surgeon/dentist)

Used to drink a bomber (or two) on my 10am lunch break everyday, only to go back to work and drive a forklift for several hours before getting off at 1pm and going to school.

Good times

The best kind of beers, also even better with some whiskey :p

Waking up after night of drinking and going straight back to it, best times.
