Couturier is the best defensive forward on the team...at a just turned 20.

Trading him would hurt the Flyers overall team D. I don't understand Holmgren's logic if the rumor that he offered him for Subban is true.

It just swaps a great young asset we need desperately for another good-and-eventually-hopefully-great young asset, but doesn't leave us ahead in the long run. Normally you want to find a way to move ahead with your trades, or deal from strengths to address weaknesses. Defense is definitely not a position of strength for the Habs, even if big good young centers is a position of weakness.
Couturier will help build the Habs more than you think. Bring him in and put him with Quality wingers and you will be pleasantly syrprised. We will lose a defenceman soon anyway because we have to many. Admittedly quality of D has to be raised but any of pleks,dd,eller can be used to address that need.

Eller is the worst player in the deal. Subban is the best but his and Couturiers ceilings aren't far off. All-in-all it'd be a fair deal if it weren't for team needs.

Coburn + Couturier + 1st for Subban + Eller

No offense mate but, you are delusional if you suspect a trade like that happens.

If Couturier is indeed your best defensive forward your team needs more help than I thought. There is no way a 20 year old in his second season should have a role that important.

Top young defensemen in the NHL also aren't offered contracts like Montreal is offering Subban.

Trading Coburn AND Couturier is beyond stupid as they aren't providing more D than those two do.
Coburn is better than Subban defensively but Subban is better than Coburn defensively.

We need defense

Pk-flyers idea?

I'd do PK, Eller, Bourque for Couturier, Voracek (OR Simmonds), Brandon Manning.

Oh but he does and he does exceptionally well.

You should rewatch the Pittsburgh playoff series from last year and see what he did to Malkin for proof.

Landeskog is probably Colorado's best defensive forward.

Guess they need a ton of help.

Age =/= skill

He's that good defensively.

Subban, prospect, and 2 - 2nd round picks for Couturier and a first.

I could see how it's fair but I'm not interested in Subban if the cost is Couts. Mainly his contract dispute turns me off but I'm also obviously a Couturier homer and think he'll be a two way stud.

I wonder if Montreal would be willing to entertain the thought of deal for Subban to the Flyers for anyone not named Couturier and Schenn, plus picks/prospects.

Chelios traded for one of the top players in the league
Pronger traded for one of the best players in the league
Brewer traded for Hamrlik
Brewer traded for Pronger...

Young defenseman who either are or have a chance to be elite, are worth a ton. Always have been. Subban needs to mature a lot like Pronger did. If he does, he can be a special player. Centers just dont hold that same value unless they're premier scorers. Couturier is not that guy.

Couturier has just started centering the 2nd line.

Last year he was on the 4th line while playing with players like Shelley, Wellwood, and Sestito.
