Wow, so I guess we would be a better team without Phaneuf and Kessel? People need to get their heads out of their ***es realize that its the talent surrounding these 2 guys that is the problem. You can't expect these 2 to put the team on their backs when teams know they just have to shut the two of them down to win.
There's no way the Leafs would be a better team without Phil Kessel, but I think there's definitely an argument to be made that the Leafs would be a better club without Dion Phaneuf.
Sooner or later the true beleafers are going to realize that the Emperor has no clothes. This guy is a pretty lousy defenseman and there was a reason that the Flames were desperate to dump at ten cents on the dollar.
Colton Orr is doing his job better than anyone else on this team. He is employed to fight and has fought two top 5hw, winning both. Dusted off Rupp today. Love to hear all you Xbox snipers explain how poorly he's doing. A nice tank will see Orr protecting a top 3 pick next season.
I don't recall anybody complaining about Orr or the fourth line at all tonight. They did what they had to with their 8 minutes of icetime or whatever they got.
There were too many passengers tonight, Kessel, Kadri were two of them and they are supposed to be key players. Bozak wasn't good but he looked like he was trying. The 4th. line was okay, they did their job.
The PK is looking better this year.
The PP is complete garbage.
You aren't going to win many games with only 2 lines going (2nd. and 4th.).
Bozak was trying what? Watching buddy score the first goal while he decided to not take his man?
I am so tired of people defending these scrubs that don't fit the team, to small to soft have to rely on big brothers 4th line and get worked over by contenders
Don't want to interfere in stats padding, even if we lose.
If this is what you read into a comment like that, it says a lot more about the way you think than the way I do.
[email protected] still coveting Luongo. Sure, wouldn't it be great to be losing 3-2 instead of 5-2 for a few years, maybe finishing 10th overall instead of 20th. Only to be stuck with that contract 5 years after Luongo stops being a capable starter.
Unfortunately, size comes very much at a premium in today's NHL, so Burke decided to get some before they were NHL ready in prospect projects/drafts (Colborne, Aston, Biggs, etc). Some of them will not pan out, but we have to keep drafting prospects with size, preferably ones who have been known to utilize their frame.
There isn't a team in the league that would make Kessel an offer we wouldn't be able to beat.
How do you know he will walk?
The LEafs aren't even allowed to talk contract with him yet.
Hey Chicken Little, the sky ain't falling.
He has a limited no-trade clause in his contract coming up in the last year of his contract. If he doesn't show signs of wanting to re-up we have to at least listen to offers for him before it kicks in. We can lose year after year without him just as much as we have with him.
It comes down to when you believe this team will be contending. Kessel is 25 and will be 27 when he's playing on his new UFA contract. If we're 3-5 years away from doing some damage Kessel will be pushing 30 and likely be on the downward trend of his career. This varies, but most goal scorers peak around ages 27-29.
Of course, if you believe this team is a player or two away from contention then you won't agree with any of this and rightly so. The point is, we can't lose him for nothing. We just can't take that risk after the price we paid to get him.
So you think Reimer should have had a 42 shots against SO? No one here thinks he's Patrick Roy but this game is not on him.
I never suggested the "game was on him" nor did I say he played poorly. All I'm saying is it sounds a little idiotic to suggest that he played outstanding and the Leaf defense was solid in a game where they allowed 42 shots and 5 goals.
