Brother, the sooner Phaneuf becomes our 2nd best Defenceman, and maybe 3rd if Reilly makes the team, this team will be far better off.

But again if we get Mackinnon, the sooner Bozak and Grabo become the 2nd and 3rd Center's on the team and kadri takes the next step, same as the above.

There's no way the Leafs would be a better team without Phil Kessel, but I think there's definitely an argument to be made that the Leafs would be a better club without Dion Phaneuf.

Sooner or later the true beleafers are going to realize that the Emperor has no clothes. This guy is a pretty lousy defenseman and there was a reason that the Flames were desperate to dump at ten cents on the dollar.

I don't recall anybody complaining about Orr or the fourth line at all tonight. They did what they had to with their 8 minutes of icetime or whatever they got.

it's a team game. our whole lineup, top to bottom, did not play well. Weak forecheck and team defence against a cup contender.

You do realize even if we had MacKinnon as a #1C, Grabo would still be our 2nd line center?

Unless Kadri won hte spot.

The PK is looking better this year.

The PP is complete garbage.

You aren't going to win many games with only 2 lines going (2nd. and 4th.).
Bozak was trying what? Watching buddy score the first goal while he decided to not take his man?

I am so tired of people defending these scrubs that don't fit the team, to small to soft have to rely on big brothers 4th line and get worked over by contenders

Yea good call bunjay, did you read my post? Where did I mention tonight? Orr has done his job all season. Your trolling has fallen off over the lockout, grind harder.

If this is what you read into a comment like that, it says a lot more about the way you think than the way I do.

LOL@people still coveting Luongo. Sure, wouldn't it be great to be losing 3-2 instead of 5-2 for a few years, maybe finishing 10th overall instead of 20th. Only to be stuck with that contract 5 years after Luongo stops being a capable starter.

Unfortunately, size comes very much at a premium in today's NHL, so Burke decided to get some before they were NHL ready in prospect projects/drafts (Colborne, Aston, Biggs, etc). Some of them will not pan out, but we have to keep drafting prospects with size, preferably ones who have been known to utilize their frame.

How do you know he will walk?

The LEafs aren't even allowed to talk contract with him yet.

Hey Chicken Little, the sky ain't falling.
He has a limited no-trade clause in his contract coming up in the last year of his contract. If he doesn't show signs of wanting to re-up we have to at least listen to offers for him before it kicks in. We can lose year after year without him just as much as we have with him.

It comes down to when you believe this team will be contending. Kessel is 25 and will be 27 when he's playing on his new UFA contract. If we're 3-5 years away from doing some damage Kessel will be pushing 30 and likely be on the downward trend of his career. This varies, but most goal scorers peak around ages 27-29.

Of course, if you believe this team is a player or two away from contention then you won't agree with any of this and rightly so. The point is, we can't lose him for nothing. We just can't take that risk after the price we paid to get him.

Just some food for thought.

Orr and Brown played just over 3 mins.Seems to me that Carlyle's been over playing some and under playing others.

I'm okay with this, the quicker we get Grabo away from Tavares or Richards type C's the better this team will be. What do you think of Kadri this year? Can he be our #2 one day?

I never suggested the "game was on him" nor did I say he played poorly. All I'm saying is it sounds a little idiotic to suggest that he played outstanding and the Leaf defense was solid in a game where they allowed 42 shots and 5 goals.

2013 draft gameplan - use all our picks on goaltenders! It can't fail. One of them are bound to be a solid #1.

Carlyle is not the problem. I understand what you are implying however a carpenter is only as good as his tools.
