because leafs never tend to go the conventional route

TB: Stamkos, Marty St. Louis, Vinny
Vancouver: Sedin, Sedin, Kesler
Anaheim: Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Selanne
Edmonton: RNH, Hall, Eberle
SJ: Thornton, Marleau...and the crew

I'd say all those teams have at least 3 players that are similar to Kessel, if not better.

We have one.
I think you can survive with 2 if your getting big years from Grabo/Lupul/JVR/Kadri. If we can get one more piece and Kessel is our second best player I think we're fine. It's just discouraging that whenever there's a rumour out there or big free agent out there we are never a realistic option. Big Free agents signed post lockout: Parise, Suter, Hossa, Richards, Briere Chara etc. Big players trade: Nash, Carter, Richards, Neal, Staal and yet we traded for Kessel and it took two 1sts who look to be impactful nhlers. We HAVE to go the drafting route.

Two back to back games were we faltered in the third. Is it MENTAL? I dunno. Reimer played damn good to at least give us a win. I've said it from last season, this team can be competitive but we need a top player or two to really elevate us. We TRY hard but it isn't good enough.

OP's clearly out to lunch. We have..
One of the best wingers in game - Kessel (he scores points, end of discussion)
One of the best second line centers in the game - Grabovski (he got back at Chara that one game, end of discussion)
#1 D - Phaneuf, A PPG winger sitting in the sidelines due to injury...

All of them under 28 (29 in lupul's case) in their prime and ready to roll. Future is bright.

Burke=genius...still mourning at the loss of the great one.

It hasn't happend and it will never happen but just think

Phaneuf + Bozak for Duchene
Kessel for Coutrier

Grabo, Kulemin, Lupul for Kane

Kane - Couturier - Drouin
JVR - Duchene - Kadri

(dreaming)

You can thank Uncle Burke for that... might be the worst trade in the history of the franchise. So happy that arrogant American is the **** out of Toronto. Now its time to clean up the garbage he left.

I know. But leaf fans are impatient. This team can be competitive but they're just not good enough, same as always every season.

We were outplayed from the start of the game today and we were damn lucky to be up 2-0 after the first . Just because we had the lead for 2 periods doesn't mean we were playing well .

This fan base has gone full retard

What happened to all those fans who were going to be indifferent about this season because either route in the standings would be a bonus. What happened to those who said if we make the playoffs than great, but a top 5 pick would benefit us more. Obviously everyone who said that was ****ing ************. Calm the **** down, stop trying to sell off whatever valuable pieces we have for what are the worst possible returns.

Evander Kane is an idiot and a cancer, if people rip apart Phaneuf and Kadri for their "attitude" what would they do to this?

I've been saying we arn't good enough for years and for years i keep hearing we're 1 or 2 players away .

We maybe a couple of players away from the playoffs but this team needs a major overhaul if we're going to be a contender .

-we're weak down the middle

-we're soft on the wings

-Reims has potential but he needs a solid vet b/u to help ease the burden and help develop him

-our D is mediocre and most are one deminsional

Also like others have said we're filled with players who only do one thing well while being below avg at the rest of the game .

Overall this team is just a cluster**** on a treadmill to no where .

^^ Agreed. Do a proper re-build. This is the BEST DRAFT in a long time. Nonis, time to put up or shut up.

We lack top end talent.

We lack depth on the team.

We lack high quality prospects in the system.

We don't serve as an attractive place for free agents.

This team sucks. This is going to get a hell of a lot worse before it gets better, be sure of that.

What surprises me is that people expect this to be different this season somehow - it's the same god damn roster that shat the bed last season

It's going to take a few years for Nonis or any other GM to undo the mess Burke left behind .
