I'm so over shootouts. And not just because we're awful at them. They have no business deciding a hockey game like that. 4-4 OT was awesome and you could feel a goal coming.
There you go. ****. We played well enough to win, but a couple of bad breakdowns and it's a big L for the Preds.
Marty and Leggy had good shots. Props to Fasth for making a good stop on Leggy.
Fisher...I still don't understand why the guy does shootouts...and how the hell he's scored 6 times on them. He doesn't have a good deke, and his shot just doesn't have mustard.
1-1-3. 5 points in 5 games. We're not dead, but with a little tilt in the other direction and we're near the top of the standings.
I do think if we play more games LIKE this, we'll start to see the wins come. We just need to bury our chances. We're close, but we have to get the offense going. Allowing 2 goals to the Ducks in regulation is pretty good.
If we scored 3 goals in regulation in every game, we'd be 3-0-1 with a tie game at St. Louis going to OT.
Hopefully Hornqvist is OK. That could throw a wrench in things as we get these new lines established.
If this is going to continue, let's ship a 5th to EDM for Omark as a shootout specialist...
I wonder what Klasen is up to these days?

He's having yet another streak of games where he's clutching his stick too tightly, I wonder because of the shortened season how many of those little streaks he can have this year.

I thought that Nashville would win 2-1. The Ducks came right back and scored.
Things aren't as bad as they seem. We win the shootouts and we'd be 4-1. Instead we are 1-1-3 and have got 5 pts. Good news is that we played a whole lot better tonight. Bad news is we lose Hornqvist. SK moves back up to the top 6 and has got to step it up.
I can't believe how well Clune can play now... He was the worst p.o.s on the kings, congrats to your pick up...
Btw his nickname with fans is
CluneATIC
Good game, guys. Hard fought, and pretty damn even. I knew we were doomed going into the shootout, though.
As for Clune...(or as we have affectionally called him so far...Clown)...this is the first game he's actually showed that he knows what the game of hockey is. Other than tonight, it was mainly him taking a couple of runs at players, getting in a fight, and not contributing in any sort of way on offense or defense.
He actually showed that he can possess the puck and forecheck tonight, which puts him above our other goon, McGrattan. If the guy can just check hard and not be a defensive liability, I don't have a problem throwing him a few 4th line minutes.
But again...this is the only game so far that he hasn't looked like *******. Congrats aren't deserved quite yet.
I still like the shootout, they were pretty darn exciting when we had Sully, Kariya and Zidlicky along with goalies who stopped the shots.
I don't think that Rinne is particularly built for the shootout, he's very athletic for sure, but it still takes him long to correct when he bites on a deke. During regular action it's easier for him to follow the play and anticipate shots. The shootout is a lot of guesswork. I'd almost rather switch to Mason for the shootout, but IIRC teams figured him out last time he was here in that you get him going side-to-side and he'd give you the 5-hole every time.
The Preds are as close to being 4-1-0 as they can be without being anywhere near that record. And i'm going to pin it on not having an "Attack" mentality and i'm not sure how you instill that mindset into players who have pretty much never shown it.
So we're down our only net presence and leading scorer for the past couple of seasons. Our big money players aren't getting results, Smith is invisible on good nights .... yet we've taken three of five games to a shootout and lost every time. Disappointing outcomes of games that were a bit of puck luck from going the other way.
as bad as we have looked, and only one win in 5 games, this little team that could is in the top 8. Mike Smith is god is not, the cup champs aren't, the wings and all their elite scorers aren't, the oils and all their wunderkids aren't, and ryan suter and zach parise aren't.
perspective is a wonderful thing. I will repeat and repeat and repeat. 15-9 at home (30 points) and average a ppg on the road (24 points) gets us in the playoffs.
Not sure what's wrong with Rinne in the shootouts, but I'm sure he'll get it fixed. His record shows he can be a lot better than he has been this year.
