Conditional 3rd round pick, depending on how many games Connolly plays. Leafs also retain a portion of Connolly's salary.

Flames need a center that can play in the top-6.

Why we have Stajan and Backlund both can handle the top 6, Tanguay has been fine and Cervenka may well be an viable center option and all are cheaper then Connolly and won't cost us a pick.

I never suggested there was motivation for the Leafs to do it, just saying this is the only way I would consider acquiring him.

As a leafs fan I would do this in a heartbeat, but as an intelligent hockey fan I dont see why Calgary would, even if the leafs retained half his salary I just dont think he is enough of an upgrade for them to justify giving anything up for him.

Being a fan of both teams I can tell you Tim Connolly has no business in anyone's top 6. This would be a bad trade for the Flames.

Cervenka and Backlund are both better options.

Stajan was bad value, but he is actually a useful player as a bottom 6 guy who can slide up to a top 6 role if injuries are a factor or things need to be mixed up.

He is pretty responsible defensively which is more than you can say for Connolly.

so let me get this straight as a Leafs fan

you hand Calgary TC AND eat up a bunch of his salary TO GET a possible 3RD RND pick if he plays X number of games

and why as a Leafs fan would you do something this kind and charitable for the Calgary Flames

unless of course you were thinking of flipping that "conditional 3RD RND pick for a conditional 1ST RND pick"

then it would make sense
