All I'm saying is that saying Hamilton will never be as good as Pie is ridiculous. Hamilton has made the NHL a year younger then Pie with a stronger Defense to crack and already has 3 points in 4 games playing top 4 minutes. He's also been good defensively and has shown he's not afraid of making and taking hits, imagine how he'll be when he adds some weight and gets stronger.

It's just simply to early to make a judgement either way and pretty much making any discussion pointless. Remember when Tyler Myers scored 4 points in his first 5 games and was a +6?

Agreed, both teams have a young potential franchise D-man, no need to argue which one will be better at this point.

It is, really. Crystal ball type of stuff. Having said that, if I have a stack of money that I must put down either way... I'm not sold on Hamilton yet at all, and this is Pietrangelo we're talking about.

Comparing +/- of pie and hamilton at ~19 is hilarious. Hamilton is clearly off to a great start, but look at the team he plays with in comparison to what pie played with. That being said, both should have great careers.

Hamilton has played what 4 games and he is up against a guy who is easily in the top 10 in the league. I'm shocked Hamilton has 4 votes.

If anyone picks Hamilton, they are wrong. One day maybe, but as of now, it's not even close.

Interesting poll,... if you're interested in how lopsided a HF poll can be. Rightly so.

Not fair at all for Hamilton.

Pietrangelo is already one of the best defensemen in the league and is going to get better.

Hamilton is only 19 and has been having an incredible season so far, but it's 4 games, and Pietrangelo has proven a lot more. Until further notice, Pietrangelo now and later.

That's great. The guy who coached them both disagrees

For now, Pietrangelo. Way too premature for this comparison. I'm really impressed with Hamilton, though. The Leafs got hosed in the Kessel trade.

Any person who votes for Hamilton is a blind homer.

Answer is Pietrangelo, and it's not even close.

Revisionist history.

Quote:
on his way to be one of the better d's in the league
is nothing close to saying he is a fine defenseman. "On his way" is clearly implying that he isn't there yet. And "one of the better d's"?? If we define "better d's" as a top pairing defensemen, that puts him outside, possibly just inside, the top 60 defensemen in the league. (30 teams x 2 players on the top pairing. Not perfect, but good enough for hfboards work.) So you originally claimed that he wasn't a top 60, or maybe just inside the top 60.

But better doesn't usually imply top 1/3. It usually implys top 1/2 to most people. I'd say Barret Jackman is one of the better d's in the league. Not great, but good. Top 50%.

But Pietrangelo? He's one of the best d's.

You then go on in a later post, claiming that
Quote:
Pietrangelo is a good overall D
but
Quote:
not an elite d on either the defensive or offensive end.
I, and many others in this thread, are telling you that is simply not true. 50+ points from the blueline on your team's shutdown pairing is great. It is elite.

Based on Norris voting, and assuming only 180 defensemen in the league, Pietrangelo was judge to be in the top 2% of defensemen last season. If that isn't elite, what is?

Nobody cares that you mention Hamilton in the same sentence as Pietrangelo. We are just telling you it makes you look foolish at this point. It isn't his point totals that make Pietrangelo so great. It is his defensive play.

And please don't pawn off ownership of an entire fanbase on one person. He isn't MY Blues fan at all. In fact, he isn't even a Blues fan, he has a Flyers avatar, lives in Virgina, and I've never seen him post on the Blues board. If you have a problem with his comments, take it up with him.

But you don't. You've taken issue with every Blues fan here that has posted that Pietrangelo is better than "good". You claim you are making your points because a "Blues fan said he wouldn't trade him for Crosby or Malkin." Yet you never actually responded to the FLYERS fan who said they wouldn't trade Pietrangelo for Malkin or Stamkos.

When I showed you that Pietrangelo had an elite level offensive performance last season, you resorted to a small sample size (3 games) while he was injured (knee injury significantly impacting his mobility) against the eventual Stanley Cup champions.

I honestly don't care if you want to compare and contrast Pietrangelo and Hamilton's style. But if you think Pietrangelo is merely one his way to being one of the better d's in the league, then you are underrating Pietrangelo more than that Flyers fan is overrating him.

When did Marty Williamson coach Pietrangelo?

Williamson was hired for the 2010-11 season, correct?

The Blues purposely kept Pietrangelo stretched out Pietrangelo's nine game trial until December when he left for the WJC.

His rights were then traded from Niagara to Barie during the WJC. After the WJC, when the Blues returned Pietrangelo to juniors, he went to the Barie Colts. As far as I can tell, Marty Williamson never actually coached Alex Pietrangelo.

I'll admit, I'm unsure about major juniors off-season training, and pre-season training schedules, so maybe Williamson coached him in some practices?
