when he trolled galenchyuk a bit it made me laugh, and he's definitely very visible on the ice, that kadri line is really awesome.

I wish they let him be #87, it'd be such a troll number, especially in games against Pittsburgh where we'd presumably send him out to rattle Crosby

For the record, I've been a leaf fan since the early 60's... Been through plenty with this team. I know what I like in a player and Leo is something special.... (Spinner Spencer was another player I liked best after watching him for the first time.)

What's his nickname gonna be? Something cliche like LK47? Or Camaro? Or what?

It could easily be Kom-ar-ov or Koma-rov but thanks for the sarcasm

that's all dialect-specific, I doubt anyone here is rolling their R's when they say his name anyway

The Mosquito.

(Hint: Put Komarov's name (Комаров) into Google Translate)

ding ding ding!

'komar' can mean fly, gnat, or mosquito (wheras moskit specifically means mosquito)

as a 'pest', his surname is amazingly fitting

The last name isn't necessarily ethnic Russian, as it could be a Russified version (as is what happened to most Karels)

He's also a Russian citizen, and can speak fluent English, Russian, Finnish, and Swedish
I didn't know the Karelian roots..."so in some way Leo came home" when he moved to Finland.

Leo is one of my favourite players and him playing in Leafs makes Leafs now ok team to follow now and then

So what's the end of the story? They didn't let him wear #87?

My guess is he was assigned a number until he makes the team.

Holy crap he got 8 hits the first game?

Love Leo. Guy's going to be a monster in the playoffs... whenever we get there.

Just checked and yeah, his dad was born in Karelia, too

How often do guys change the numbers they are assigned? That he got 47 in lieu of 87 seems pretty set in stone...

A lot of Leafs fans also don't realize he's one of the most accomplished Leafs as well. In the past two years he's won the World Championship and the Gagarin Cup (KHL Championship).

I Didn't expected Komarov to play on a scoring line at the begining of the season, he can be a great 4th liner as well as a reliable scorer. He makes me think of Sean Avery without the stupid attitude.

I'd like to just give credit to the coaching staff and management team for the way the team was selected out of camp. boy did they make all the right 'little' decisions. taking Kostka, starting Scrivens, putting Komarov on the 3rd line, moving Lombardi and Connolly to promote Kadri, leaving Bozak with Kessel Lupul, they have all payed off thus far.

Komarov. Still reaping the rewards of the JFJ drafts...

What's wrong with him? He is like a choirboy on ice. I expected him to go agitate that first line when they were dominating the ice. He just watched them scoring again and again.

I understand his behaviour against teams who played poor like Montreal. U don't wanna wake up opposite team. But today NYR played great and nothing was done to irritate them and to draw their fokus from playing.

I'm going to reluctantly agree. I had hoped he would be a little dirtier. He seems very timid out there, like he's afraid to open his mouth.
