Feeling nostalgic, I dug up my impression of Karlsson from back in 2009 in the evaluation tournament...thing they had in Kitchener and now Oshawa, the one with all the rookies and non-pros, you know the one.

Anyway: Erik Karlsson: By far the best skater on either team. He controlled the play when he was on the ice and exuded skill. Confident and effortless the whole time; he gladly demonstrated every weapon in his arsenal. Taking down Tangradi with a hit (penalty), making slick passes, skating circles around a player or two, carrying the puck up the ice and blasting a goal home, Karlsson was awesome. His biggest downfall offensively is that outside of Regin (his target of choice tonight), no one was ready for his tape to tape passes through 6 player's feet. However, he did have two large defensive gaffes but Lehner bailed him out. He could play in the NHL but will need work on his defensive side to avoid seeing 8-10 minutes of ice time, mostly on the PP. Hopefully 40ish games in the AHL help him enough that he can make the jump some time this year.

Cowen being injured may be a good thing for him.
We all know how people here say Pieface is better because he plays the PK. If Ottawa keeps getting the penalties they have Karlsson will end up with 150 minutes of PK time this season. In a regular season that would be 250 minutes, or 5x what he did last season. We are lucky we stole that garbage pick at 15th.

Seems that playing for Jokerit in 30 games has helped Karlsson to be in shape when a lot of players are still rusty. Wise decision from Erik to play in the FEL.

While EK did finish off strong putting up three points and looking very good in the third, he, and many others on the team though, looked rusty in the first half of the game. He didn't have the perfect game based on some difficulties he had in his own end today, but he is Erik Karlsson. Looked great in the third. He's still fast as all hell. There's no other player in the league as exciting to watch and I will be forever grateful to have him on our team.

I'm always so relieved to see when Karlsson is our guy in a footrace to a loose puck in our zone. You just know he's gonna blast by the forward and skate that puck to safety. Friggen gazelle.

I love that another group of fans got to appreciate how great Karlsson is without us having to trade him lol.

Yup.. It looks like he can win this year, not just one but two leagues defenders scoring titles, both SM-Liiga and NHL.

He's still leading eeeeasily the stats in SM-Liiga defenders. And closest thrillers are strugling as a team. And no one plays like Karlsson, as offensive, at the moment in the league. Last guy the league had who played like that was Sami Vatanen.

That was my first thought too, but seeing the replay I think it might have been the jet player

Nice, I hope that catches on.

This thread isn't needed though. Every thread on this board is a Karlsson appreciation. Just so.

Its gotten to the point where I legit wouldn't trade him one-for-one for any other player in the league.

The scary part is, I don't think that makes me a homer, either.

I totally agree. As good as Crosby and Malkin are, you can get fairly close to their production with a lesser star. Karlsson, on the other hand.... there's no one like him.

Either Karlsson plays defense his own way, or he simply plays better.

Some of his plays (and goal, he even started the whole sequence with a nifty pass)in Florida:

Any good Karlsson stories?
Did you follow his play as he was growing up in your town?
He's great! He's the straw that stirs the drink.

He looks even better than last year. Throw all those "average defensively" out the window.

I totally agree. And he's been playing minutes of PKing. And he's actually been decent on the Penalty Kills.

Its nice to see. Over a PPG, PKing, PPing... one of the fastest puck moving D-men in the league (ok, probably THE fastest).

And I still feel he's going to come into his own a bit more. I thought he looked a little rusty his first game, and has made a few more mistakes than typical. But he's getting there -- and think he will be improved.

HAIL THE ****ING KING.

Best game of the year. FLAWLESS defensively and made Ovechkin his **** tonight.

Undressed 2 Washington players before setting up the game winner.

BTW, something I noticed by Karlsson is that he has improved his dangling, WOW. Sometimes I think I'm watching Kane or Datsyuk.

It's ridiculous and he isn't even capitalizing on his chances! He should have scored against Pitts and today he missed 3-4 chances shooting wide.

With all that in mind, he still plays a brilliant game. He could easily have 10 points so far.
