I love what Laughton brings to the table and I think this is the right move.

As well as I think he played, and he did, you can tell when a player has what it takes to hang in the NHL, he was clearly a boy amongst men out there. He brought some energy, but I also felt that may have been excitement from playing his first games in the NHL.

I would not want him to stick around only to hit the rookie wall, and end up player 8 minutes a night by the time playoffs roll around. He needs to be playing 20 minutes a night and dominating the OHL.

Send him to Oshawa. Only the absolute elite 18 and 19 year olds should stay up.

Agreed. Didn't see Arnott had signed with the Rangers before my last post. D'Oh!

I like the idea of signing Daymond Lankgow to a contract. He would be PERFECT for the 3/4C checking role. He's physically tough, smart and can still skate. Dominic Moore is probably a better player, but it's not sure he'll come back this year and he isn't as good in the room as Langkow.

I don't think my brain could handle another random Flyer retread on this team!

I'm not opposed to sending Laughton back to junior. He played well during his time here and he's got big fans in Laperriere and Laviolette. This is an ideal time for Laughton to go back to Oshawa, play the final 19 games of the season there, go an extended run in the playoffs, and then come into camp where he'll get a chance to develop some real chemistry with guys and go from there.

It's clear that Laughton has some skills and he's very much well adept defensively. His offensive game does need some fine tuning though and maybe an extra year in Oshawa is required. With Jenner being gone at the start of next season, maybe that's the time that the Generals hand the team over to Laughton and he gets a chance to run with the ball as the top guy there.

I doubt he is back in juniors next season unless he just falls flat on his face in prospect+training camps next offseason.

Depends if they want him to play 4th line minutes or not. Right now you're still looking at Giroux, Couts, Briere, and Schenn as possible centers barring a trade.

Schenn will probably end up playing wing, and if Briere gets bought out Laughton would be in a great spot behind Giroux and Couturier (he should be playing wing, too, anyway).

Couturier should not be playing the wing.

That's still a lot of if's. And then you have Cousins, who everyone assumes will move to the wing, but we don't really know what the plan is with him yet. When Laughton was drafted, I fully expected him to play two more years in junior and possibly a tune-up in the A before being a full-time NHL guy. His profile to me just seemed like that kind of guy. His debut was pretty good and the Flyers have a reputation of being aggressive with 1st round picks so its definitely possible he outperforms that projection. I think we'll have a better idea based on how he finishes this year in Oshawa, who is signed/traded in the offseason, and how much he progresses physically in the offseason.

I'm really faithful in Laughton, he also seems to have a lot of character, which is great.

Do we think Laughton's skill set would translate to LW. His skating is much better than I expected.

I think a lot of us have been working under the assumption that either Couturier or Laughton is gone long-term, likely for a D upgrade. But I'm wondering if Laughton and Couturier couldn't form 2/3 of a very, very good 3rd line, if we are able to address the D need elsewhere.

He can always take the draw them move over. I hope he continues his upward trend. But if I am Philly, I see if I have the patience to give him 1 more year in Jr. Allow him to keep building his confidence. Be on Canada's World Jr team. THEN bring him in after the OHL playoffs next year...even if it's AHL experience. push that ELC off 1 year and sign a player like Gordon to be a 4th liner who is excellent on faceoffs.

Great. I hope you have a great time. Any reports after the game when you have time would be much appreciated. It really sounds like he will become another young building block for this team. Sounds like Stolarz had a decent game last night also.

What are the chances of the Giroux or Schenn wing experiment returns?

Hartnell - Giroux/Schenn - Schenn/Giroux
Simmonds - Couturier - Voracek
McGinn - Laughton - Read
Rinaldo - Holmstrom - Gagne

EDIT:

The more I think about it, we're a better team if Laughton can play wing...

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Simmonds - Schenn - McGinn
Laughton - Couturier - Read
Rinaldo - Holmstrom - Gagne

Any idea what Dundas did to get the 39.4? And any chance of either Dundas or Kopta get the boot for the next match? Looks like the game got a little chippy in the 3rd.

I think using Gagne on the 4th line is worthless.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Gagne-Schenn-Simmonds
Laughton-Couturier-Read
Rinaldo-Talbot-McGinn
Holmstrom
