Mess has in the last 4 years
73 + 23
50+21
45+10
38+16
Already has 5 goals in 3 games. Is 80 out of the realm of possibility?

It could be done but probably won't reach that
He won't play every game and maybe miss 5-10 games to give him rests during the season

5 goals and 3 goals already. Played 60 games last so if we assume he plays the same this year that's a pace of 100 goals.
Reckon he'll get around 65 though.

I think the emergence of Tello, Cuenca and Villa/Affelay back healthy will lead to Messi playing less games.

Out of all you mentioned I think only a healthy and in form Villa will make a difference.
Afellay needs to go out on loan, he was easily outplayed by Pedro and Tello all summer.

No it won't. Messi's in his prime, if he's healthy then he'll play. I can only see him rested in the Copa and in meaningless CL games.
Also, I think last season will stand as his best year, statistically. He had several 4 goal games, a 5 goal game.. I don't think he'll repeat that. He'll be closer to 55/60 than to 80 imho.

Quiet game? Who cares, Messi will just score two clutch goals.
6 league goals, 10 overall in 6 games.

With 2 goals against Uruguay, Messi now has 66 goals and 22 assists in 2012 for club and country.

Your numbers aren't a 100 % correct, this are the correct numbers:
60 GP: 73 G + 29 A
55 GP: 53 G + 24 A
53 GP: 47 G + 11 A
51 GP: 38 G + 18 A
this season so far:
11 GP: 12 G + 5 A
I don't think he's going to break last years numbers but it will another 50 G+ season for him i think.

Sabella has got Argentina functioning in attack and is starting to get the midfield and defence organized too.
As a result it is no surprise that Messi is starting to replicate his club form for country unlike a certain Ronaldo.
The fantastic four upfront will pose a threat to any team across the globe:

It's really astonishing, a true phenom. Will go down as one of the greatest players ever. His stats are seriously out of control.

His overall play is still lacking. On the bright side he broke Pele's record and needs 9 goals to break Muller's record.

Who's got the record? Muller?
I believe he can do it.

Yeah, I worded that kinda weird. Messi past Pele but its Mullers record he has 9 games to do it, which should be enough.

It's been a while, but another 4 goal night for Messi so this thread needs a bump.
In the previous season he scored 50 league goals, which people thought was ridiculous.
So far he has scored 33 which means he's on pace for 59
Overall he's standing at 44 right now, and on pace for 82 (he totalled 73 last season).
