You're right, it's not like we gave up the lead and lost to a team like the Islanders or something.

Oh wait..

So your criteria for a good Leafs captain is a player that doesn't turn down the offer, interesting.

Stop playing him on the wrong side with a career AHL defenseman. 30 minutes a night on the wrong side of the ice, with someone who isn't ready to play that many minutes is just plain stupid.

I think this is the most productive thing to take from the NYR game about Phaneuf.

Either the C has meaning or it has no meaning.

Phaneuf's C does not mean the same thing as Sundin's and Gilmour's.

What? I'm confused. My criteria is that he's the most qualified leader on the team. The best all around defenseman on the team. And the most seasoned high calibre player on the team. What offer are you referring to? Captains don't get an offer, they assume the position via action and play. It's not a contract its a position of trust and leadership. Name someone MORE qualified on the leafs roster?

Who cares. 3rd game in 4 nights and a back to back and Islanders never played the day before. The team looked tired-like a lot of teams do. Step from the edge guy!

People can't handle constructive criticism. Apparently, we should blindly be happy for the team regardless of how ***** we are.

A cup is not won on paper and you don't just hand out wins because they are a favourite or you feel sorry for yourself.

Phaneuf has been late to the front of the net, weak on the body, and terribad with his stick. Almost every time i see Phaneuf on the ice he is being weak on a smaller player or missing the puck through a passing lane.. His timing is way off.. not to mention his Offensive skill, or lack there of. He has been a major disappointment for me.

I was very surprised that he might have been right.

According to nhl.com, after yesterday game, he had 13 shots on goal (second after Kessel with 24) and 5 missed shots.

Because he is gassed by then. The rest of the team need to pull their heads out of their butts and stop being the joke of other teams.

Actually, he made a very valid argument.

Playing on his wrong side,it would take at least 2 months after changing positions to assimilate.

There were reasons they couldn't wait to run Phaneuf and his fat bloated contract out of Calgary.

Are some of you just waking up now?

Heard Iggy hated him there and the team wasn't a fan of him either

The A was taken from him and given to Lupul and Mac, replacement is Mcclement.

What has Phanuef done to make him more qualified? is he still riding that world junior team?

What makes Grabovski more qualified in my books is his heart, his ability to lead by example in tough games. Many nights he is our best player because even when losing he doesn't quit on plays. Effort is always 100%. He is wiling to fight Neil to defend Ashton when he clearly knew he was out matched. He doesn't need to do any of those things, his captain now doesn't, so why bother.

Another Norris worthy play right there...
And I suppose Duncan Keith is a ****ty player for allowing Ovechkin to deke him THAT badly? Get over yourself. Star defensemen get deked sometimes.

Phaneuf literally has never had a capable defense partner. Gunnar is good, but not top pair good. Phaneuf is comparable to Weber but doesn't have a Suter to play with.
